I think it's the most popular car, the one that sold the most this year, and it was actually an increase from last year. So people are still buying Teslas, even if they know about that fascist Hitler salute thing with Elon.

Then again they WERE also selling a 1960's style stationary bike for $40 bucks while just down the street was a newer one for free with a digital display.
Maybe lol.. I picked up a newer one with the digital pad thingee at a sale for my daughter two years ago, all it needed was new batteries in the head unit. Didn't look too close at this one, but it looked in really nice shape. Too many people around here seem to buy those things and barely use them.

It will take many, many years for the relationship to improve back to how close it was before, if it ever will. How long ago was the Vietnam War? A half century sounds about right...
It will require, to be specific, generational change. The people alive now are a lost cause as far as the USA is concerned. Most of them will not turn back into if not fans at least tolerant of the USA. The damage was deep, personal, and it will take a full generation that was not alive while the Redcaps ran the USA into the ground before there will be any substantial reversal.

My unsupported theory as to what might be going on here with Vietnam, India, and Philippines, is that people consider the USA as a nice migration destination.
There are large asian migrant communities in the US, probably most people in those three countries would have a direct contact or even relative who lives in the US. They would see pictures of them and hear about life in the US and perceive it to be better than their own.
Most people here reading this question think about politics, but plenty of people living in the Philippines unable to buy fuel or gas due to shortages, who would still think "favourably" of the US.

One would hope, but like, i've helped with a few of those slideshows about being good citizens in foreign countries (a full bird being assigned to Clark asked me what insight i might have as a civvie i am so sorry for making the powerpoints worse) and there are I'd say a good third to two-thirds of the military folk going overseas that aren't total shitasses at any given time. Right now? My own biases say closer to a third, but I really don't know. A good fair number of them are just average kids who didn't have any good options after high school, foolishly took the recruiters at their word (or talked to their peers and families and they didn't have a better option) and seriously hoped they wouldn't have to kill anyone. The smartest of the bunch all went into the Coast Guard though, those folk actually save lives.
A large part of the problem (but not the only problem) is the constant suppression being done by Republicans at every step. If we just had compulsory voting and a day off to vote then they'd never win again. That's why they keep doing everything they can to prevent people from voting.

I did mention there were plenty around the country, but I used to live around the Essex County area. The border towns will always be more supportive because they generally have stronger business/economic relationships with the US. It's really more of a hostage situation, because manufacturing (huge automotive sector, mainly) wants their metals and gets hit harder during Tariff Tantrums.
Plenty of folks also cross over to stores when the exchange rate is good, families might visit each other, someone'll skip SCC or UoW to go to U Michigan, etc. No loud minority with Premier support begging to split from Canada though, last I heard.
Then once you leave the city proper, there just aren't many people around 'til you hit, say, Chatham.
And for what it's worth... despite Ford's long run, Windsor itself used to be very Liberal/NDP (something like 60% between the two) until very recently.

Itās become extremely tribal, so itās not shocking to me at all.
I agree with much of what you have said however reducing why leftists dislike conservatives to book banning is disingenuous. They are forcing religious doctrines on everyone, starting wars with no rationale, removing reproductive and voting rights, the list goes onā¦ The example of book banning is such a limited example of damage compared to high level relevant examples that it does not feel representative.

That is a shocking difference in attitude. Iām not as familiar with Canadian laws but I believe that in the US, lack of media accountability and politicization/money play a large role in the problem. When the media is allowed to lie about facts and events, then lies proliferate with no consequential legal recourse to remedy the problem. The news should be backed by verifiable facts provable in court. Departures from that should be prosecuted and loose their news license. We won a big case against Fox News even in the slanted capitalist courts and it changed nothing because the sanction was a slap on the wrist compared to profits from fear mongering. I saw my grandparents fall down the Fox News hole and it was heartbreaking. In addition the current media consolidation trend should be prohibited because of monopolization principles. Billionaires should not own the press, it belongs to the people. With that framework in mind, the US public is being wildly manipulated to hate each other when we have more in common than anything. Itās actually working class vs. billionaires/trillionaire.
Ashamed to see my country still holding mostly favourable views of USA, but then again many people here don't have access to more information sources than state TV and perhaps some local press.
Sweden is an odd one given all the help the Swedes gave America when they were embarrassed by the Collateral Murder video and war disclosures by wikileaks. That must have gone down like a shit sandwich with the Swedish public.
This kind of poll is so weird. It's such a broad, general question that I wouldn't know what to say for almost any country. Sure there's your handful of obvious shitheads and maybe two or three countries that I suppose I view "favourably" but for any other country I'd just shrug.

I donāt think most Americans even think about Canada. And the ones who do and actually have a negative view of Canada are probably MAGA of which the rest of us have a negative view of MAGA just like the Canadians do

Myself and everyone I know loves Canada. We'd move there if we could. I've worked contract jobs with Canadians and we'd spend some meetings just ragging on how much the US sucks and Canada is better.
My fear is that Canada is dangerously close geographically to the asshole that is the US :/

One would hope, but like, i've helped with a few of those slideshows about being good citizens in foreign countries (a full bird being assigned to Clark asked me what insight i might have as a civvie i am so sorry for making the powerpoints worse) and there are I'd say a good third to two-thirds of the military folk going overseas that aren't total shitasses at any given time. Right now? My own biases say closer to a third, but I really don't know. A good fair number of them are just average kids who didn't have any good options after high school, foolishly took the recruiters at their word (or talked to their peers and families and they didn't have a better option) and seriously hoped they wouldn't have to kill anyone. The smartest of the bunch all went into the Coast Guard though, those folk actually save lives.

A large part of the problem (but not the only problem) is the constant suppression being done by Republicans at every step. If we just had compulsory voting and a day off to vote then they'd never win again. That's why they keep doing everything they can to prevent people from voting.

I did mention there were plenty around the country, but I used to live around the Essex County area. The border towns will always be more supportive because they generally have stronger business/economic relationships with the US. It's really more of a hostage situation, because manufacturing (huge automotive sector, mainly) wants their metals and gets hit harder during Tariff Tantrums. Plenty of folks also cross over to stores when the exchange rate is good, families might visit each other, someone'll skip SCC or UoW to go to U Michigan, etc. No loud minority with Premier support begging to split from Canada though, last I heard.
Then once you leave the city proper, there just aren't many people around 'til you hit, say, Chatham.
And for what it's worth... despite Ford's long run, Windsor itself used to be very Liberal/NDP (something like 60% between the two) until very recently.

Our media has been pitting us against each other for decades. Conservatives think leftists are evil because of all the gay sex; leftists think conservatives are evil because of book banning. And they all think the ones who say they āarenāt politicalā are uninformed and ignorant. Obviously more examples than that but you get the gist. Itās become extremely tribal, so itās not shocking to me at all.

I agree with much of what you have said however reducing why leftists dislike conservatives to book banning is disingenuous. They are forcing religious doctrines on everyone, starting wars with no rationale, removing reproductive and voting rights, the list goes onā¦ The example of book banning is such a limited example of damage compared to high level relevant examples that it does not feel representative.

That is a shocking difference in attitude. Iām not as familiar with Canadian laws but I believe that in the US, lack of media accountability and politicization/money play a large role in the problem. When the media is allowed to lie about facts and events, then lies proliferate with no consequential legal recourse to remedy the problem. The news should be backed by verifiable facts provable in court. Departures from that should be prosecuted and loose their news license. We won a big case against Fox News even in the slanted capitalist courts and it changed nothing because the sanction was a slap on the wrist compared to profits from fear mongering. I saw my grandparents fall down the Fox News hole and it was heartbreaking. In addition the current media consolidation trend should be prohibited because of monopolization principles. Billionaires should not own the press, it belongs to the people. With that framework in mind, the US public is being wildly manipulated to hate each other when we have more in common than anything. Itās actually working class vs. billionaires/trillionaire.
