Dude should read into what traditional casus belli can be caused by, notably one of those things is preemptive war caused by repeated threats to invade.
If Denmark pushes EU to an economic war, then the USD is no longer the petrol dollar and will crash immediately.
The US relies in Europe for their economy to a greater deal than the EU relies on the US. But an economic war between the worlds two largest economies will cause global economic instability for a bit.
Personally I were shocked EU didn't attack the petrol dollar at the beginning of the Hormuz closure, as that was the easy way to keep energy flowing out of the strait.
Denmark has allowed the US to have new bases in Denmark while the US was threatening Greenland. The EU is made up of countries and many have good relations with the US.
Several EU countries have been distancing themselves from the US for the past year and a half, but apparently they didn't feel prepared for cutting contact this spring.
Was it three trade agreements signed since Trump went to office? Mercosur, India and Australia iirc. They've all been laying around in a drawer, with minor details missing. Boom, they're all good now.
That's not at random, that's Europe positioning itself to not rely on the US. The continent has been awakened and the drift away is going to happen. The US wanted to be isolated, they can't stop the movement now.
India is going to replace a fair share of the reliance Europe has on the US. But Africa is right there next door screaming for investment, no need to invest in the US
Mercosur wasn't signed in Colombia at the initially planned date. That looked like US influence.
India is built up against China, with an extreme right government that looks US made.
Australia is big but with a small population. That looks more like a support of the American shift to Asia since it came with a defence agreement if I remember correctly.
But Africa is right there next door screaming for investment
So why don't we invest?
Five of Cuba's 15 provinces without power as grid fails again
India is built up against China, with an extreme right government that looks US made.
But it's a democracy which is moving in the right direction in terms of personal freedoms.
Australia is big but with a small population. That looks more like a support of the American shift to Asia since it came with a defence agreement if I remember correctly.
Looking at the official statement, it's a direct jab against the US turning away from a rules based order. This agreement is not to glaze the US, far from it.
The EU and Australia are already long-standing allies and partners, whose global outlook is aligned in terms of defending multilateralism and the rules-based international order.
We are, but we should be investing more. And more importantly, we should cleverly flood the Arabic peninsula with euroes through energy trade. To make Saudi Arabia assert its soft power in Africa and weaken the US in the process.
We honor the US embargo. There is no independence.
There's no way we can break a US blockade on Cuba, just like the US successfully can't invade France. Distance is a hell of an issue.
Cuba is too insignificant to cause a greater international reaction
That's a nice benefit but we can't use the Indian trade agreement as an example of European independence if it serves the US strategy.
defending multilateralism and the rules-based international order.
As opposed to the multipolar order. This is not opposing the US. France, and thus the EU, were not so long ago excluded from a nuclear submarine deal. I doubt that Australia switched to relying on the EU.
we should cleverly flood the Arabic peninsula with euroes through energy trade. To make Saudi Arabia assert its soft power in Africa and weaken the US in the process.
I don't think Saudi Arabia can be bought like that. Saudi Arabia was made by the US. Also, how would the EU benefit? Saudi Arabia most likely has their own goals.
There’s no way we can break a US blockade on Cuba,
True, but we could try to deliver and more prominently rub it in that the US are violating international law.
Cuba is too insignificant to cause a greater international reaction
That's when international law matters. If we don't defend it or at least try, we signal that it is only there to suppress the ambitions of small countries.
Hybrid war isn't. You can attack an enemy's interests: harm their economy, flood them with refugees beyond their ability to cope, throw up obstacles to their normal foreign trade, etc.
And those kind of comments are how Trump got into office.
But also Putin isn't a war criminal right? And China hasn't been trying to slow walk a genocide in Tibet? There are no reeducation camps for Uighur muslims or Tibetans?
Pathetic. You're crying up and down these comments about genocide and then when presented with it you aim for the lowest rung and defend it. Fuckin loser.
Frightful times breed frightful people. Being ‘left’ in the US means to be a hypocritical, moralist neoliberal, so don’t expect the revolution to start anytime soon.
I don't want a revolution. Revolutions look nice on paper and being decades or centuries away from them seem nice but revolutions cause extreme instability that open up space for corruption and allow the very people you're often trying to help fall through the cracks.
We didn't get the 40 hour work week because people fought and died for it, unfortunately. It might have brought the conversation forward but it likely delayed results as states prioritize control and stability and will increase their means of violence to do so. We got the 40 hour work week because the right people were elected.
Unfortunately the same with slavery but in an odd opposite way. The civil war ended slavery, but only because increasingly officials who were anti slavery were elected and that put pressure on southern states to engage in violence as they feared slavery would end. Which caused the government to increase their means of violence and force stability, ending slavery.
The solution is obvious, educated people make better decisions including electing better officials and they will steer society the right way. Currently the level of frustration has made people close off their opinions, disengage from electoral processes and regress back into factions prone to infighting. I fear a revolution, it will immediately land on the feet of the poor, destitute and desperate and harm them probably killing the very people a revolution is supposed to help.
I'm not preaching total non-violence here. There will be violence. But starting a full blown revolution is not the path forward in my opinion. Regardless of how people want to portray it stability is way closer than it seems, uniting together and education are the shortest paths to it.
And people who comment that harris and trump are the same are actively ruining those avenues to a solution because often they're not interested in a solution they're interested in being right and being heard and making people believe they are right.
People forget that in the rather crowded primary she was one of the least popular candidates and one of the first to crash out. And that was even before anyone knew about her dumber policy positions. So, justified or not, we knew people wouldn't enthusiastically show up for her.
What I am trying to say, and the reason you're getting down voted for a dumbass opinion, is that for any and ALL reasons you could possibly come up with about her being a bad candidate, trump is objectively 10-100x WORSE on exactly the same reason... Plus 100x extra insane and horrible policies for each of those 1 arguments you made a dumbass comment about.
No one said anything about "history starting" on Trump's 2nd term. I'm saying you OBJECTIVELY are ignoring facts, and it makes your comment, and you for making it, look stupid.
I HATE our two party system more than anyone, but I'll bet you either voted for trump, didn't vote, or voted third part during the recent presidential election. IMO, the current state of the US is a direct outcome of your stupidity, and stupid people like you. That, or your not from the US, in which case STFU.
And Americans are easily manipulated and believed trump when he pretended to be anti war, while kamala leaned into the war mongering. It's not the fault of Americans that they're tremendously stupid, but it should be a consideration to any intelligent politician. It wasn't this time around and now we have the acceleration of American fascism.
Edit: I'm not American. Death to America. Your piece of shit country will invade mine before your dumbass midterms.
Well, in this case I am sorry, my country shouldn't be invading any other countries. I will agree with this, death to American fascism. But don't let the these maga scum fool you, you say it's not their fault. While a small group were "useful" idiots and got scammed into this, a much larger group are just racist pos. It is absolutely insane the amount of brainwashed idiots walking around in this country.
Its currently like letting an ancient guy with dementia, anger issues, and health problems drive a semi down the highway, the death is coming but it'd be nice if someone could step in and prevent bystanders from being injured/killed.
Yes, but only if the world takes Trump seriously when he makes threats.
I cannot overstate how dangerous the TACO Trump Always Cowards Out mentality is because what makes Trump so dangerous is he is too much of a coward to back down.
Europe is throwing the world into chaos by ignoring this reality.
Ye…the boys and girls who shouted for years that they were the vanguard of democracy ánd who for years complained that people of Iran, China and Russia should ‘rise up’ and ‘get rid’ of their tyrannic leaders are now more willing than any other people to throw their hands up and surrender in the face of the dumbest, most incompetent autocrat that has ever risen to power.
In fact, the US is one of the few countries in the world where average citizens can legally own an automatic rifle or organize a militia and literally no one has tried to wrestle power from him including the supposed opposition party. Think about it; dozens of kids and teachers get blown away by crazed teen shooters each year. Thousands die from armed robberies and murders committed with firearms.
And the reason they never banned that crap is because of an almost sacred right to defend yourself from tyrannic rule. So, if you’re not going to do that, why even have firearms in the first place?!
I'm reasonably confident that if trump actually gave the order it would probably result in a military coup. He's not popular with the generals after he got them all together, pulling many of them from assignments overseas, just to insult them for no readily apparent reasons.
Nazi Germany had already been defeated at the time of operation paper clip you twit. If they had that much global control why did they then let themselves lose the war.
If you're gonna come up with brainless conspiracy theories you need to make some sort of coherent sense.
You should go with claiming that the Nazis invented a time machine to escape prosecution and traveled forward in time to the 21st century, it's just a stupid a claim but I can't actually disprove that one.
The Nazi reasoning: Just following orders. Notwithstanding they do enjoy it everytime Vietnam, World War 2, Afghanistan, Iraq all have stories with evidences of Army raping, torturing, women and children.
And that is the reason why we can't expect them from not invading NATO country.
In between spontaneous naps and shitting himself the demented rapist idiot, 80, pretended to be a real tough guy because his demented Klansman slum-lord father never loved him.
Yeah the guy who's never had much punishment for his thousands of crimes. Please oh God emperor tell us how we wronged you for getting away with pilfering any money you could for over six decades. If you told us how to submit better we wouldn't have mentioned your over 30 felonies for fraud, your lying on taxes or even attempting and succeeding to use the US government's pow r to enrich yourself.
Yep, I would love to see how will go if the commander in chief of the world largest army invade one country of one of the largest ower of their public debt...
EU will not even need to send an army, we just need to sell the US debt.
When he finally does die they'll refuse to admit it for about three months and just sort of Weekend at Bernie's him. Will probably try and pass off a bunch of unconvincing AI video as evidence of his aliveness.
I dont know. I think noone would believe hes still alive if he doesnt show some presence for more than a day, given how much of an attention whore he is. Remember when he had COVID and had to show off driving around?
If I were Greenland, I would go to UN or whoever they're a part of and issue an arrest warrant for Trump for all the war crimes he's committed and for all the war crimes he's blatantly announcing to the public.
You wouldn't, for as UN ambassador to Greenland you'd know that the U.S. has never recognised the authority of the ICC and even vowed to use military force against it should it... well, get in the way of the U.S.' lust for war crimes.
Well, the problem is: they are. Every law is void if u enforcable. And since the very superpowers that created the U.N. decided that they'd only enforce international law (including human rights) when it suited their national interest, only those who lost favour with all sides and could find nobody to hold their hand over them have ever been tried and convicted by the ICC.
No European country could survive a war with the US, and Greenland is just not worth it. The US government knows this. It will further push Europeans to become independent. Such a tragedy.
A few years ago I would have agreed with you, but after watching the US's disastrous campaign in Iran I'm not as sure. I think there are quite a few European countries that could lock the US into an unwinnable conflict.
Yeah war has changed massively and it sure seems like most of the US military is equipped for combat that drone warfare has rendered obsolete. Not to mention the rampant corruption in the government - hard to say what they’re capable of anymore.
The point is not Greenland. "Nobody" cares about Greenland.
NATO is a defense pact. If the US claims and invades Greenland, that's an attack that will trigger the defense clauses in NATO.
The US is big, but I don't see them winning a conflict between all of Europe, Canada AND the other usual suspects who would happily jump at the opportunity, like China and Iran.
Yes the US is huge and heavily armed, but leadership is incompetent. We are like bigger Russia. I am certain that remaining NATO countries could successfully defend Greenland. Still, many will die and things will be destroyed no matter what. Invading Greenland would not only be incredibly stupid, but it would serve as proof positive that the US has to be taken out. Sanctioned and kept out of world trade and isolated like we do to the commies.
Yeah right, the US struggles against farmers and goat herders.... They have lost most wars they started. They would get crushed by modern age military. They are actually getting fucked up in Iran alone. Now go up against advanced militaries and essentially an entire continent plus war with Europe would drag in it's allies. The US will face total economic collapse and face civil war before the EU comes close to falling.
Dipshit donnie already neutered us by wasting our arms on another conflict. We may not even be able to defend against an actual threat like Russia or China anymore let alone pick a random fight with an ally.
China has Tibet like Russia has Ukraine or Israel has Palestine. The US obviously doesn't have a good track record either but past allies, countries we've helped in the past, may be more vulnerable since these pedophiles took over. For example, we've moved missile defenses out of South Korea whom North Korea wants to invade and China backs.
Unfortunately, things aren't black and white but shades of grey.
US missile stockpiles looking a little thin according to recent reports. Maybe they shouldn’t be trying to butter everybody’s biscuits like the bluster would lead one to believe.

Nonconfrontational@lemmy.ml · 1 pts · 15d

So, if you’re not going to do that, why even have firearms in the first place?!

it_depends_man@lemmy.world · 18 pts · 16d
The point is not Greenland. "Nobody" cares about Greenland.
NATO is a defense pact. If the US claims and invades Greenland, that's an attack that will trigger the defense clauses in NATO.
The US is big, but I don't see them winning a conflict between all of Europe, Canada AND the other usual suspects who would happily jump at the opportunity, like China and Iran.
Major_Tsiom@fedia.io · 9 pts · 16d
Yes the US is huge and heavily armed, but leadership is incompetent. We are like bigger Russia. I am certain that remaining NATO countries could successfully defend Greenland. Still, many will die and things will be destroyed no matter what. Invading Greenland would not only be incredibly stupid, but it would serve as proof positive that the US has to be taken out. Sanctioned and kept out of world trade and isolated like we do to the commies.
Siegehammer85@lemmy.world · 13 pts · 16d
Yeah right, the US struggles against farmers and goat herders.... They have lost most wars they started. They would get crushed by modern age military. They are actually getting fucked up in Iran alone. Now go up against advanced militaries and essentially an entire continent plus war with Europe would drag in it's allies. The US will face total economic collapse and face civil war before the EU comes close to falling.
Pollo_Jack@lemmy.world · 11 pts · 16d

China has Tibet like Russia has Ukraine or Israel has Palestine. The US obviously doesn't have a good track record either but past allies, countries we've helped in the past, may be more vulnerable since these pedophiles took over. For example, we've moved missile defenses out of South Korea whom North Korea wants to invade and China backs.
Unfortunately, things aren't black and white but shades of grey.
