I dunno, for all the alt-right frothing, Charlie Kirk doesn't seem like someone anyone will think about even a month from now, let alone set up a pin board for.
He deserved what he got, but if I was making a list of worthy targets I'd probably forget to add him.
Legit forgot he existed till I woke up from my nap this afternoon and the internet was on fire about the shooting and shortly there after his declaration of death.
Was a bit surprised a few discord servers I was on was trying to spin it like this was something the left always does and gets away with. When i asked for them to give a source to that they freaked out and tried to get a mod to ban me. Good times.
Yeah, there's a rotating cast of grifters that are making the world worse but aren't really individually important in the larger fascist project. And political shootings are almost entirely from the right. The last political shooting from the left I can think of is the congressional baseball shooting nearly a decade ago.
I got myself banned from a discord server for daring to refuse to express sympathy for his death and calling him a Neo-Nazi instead. One of the moderators is very conservative, unsurprisingly
Id probably would've added him but as halftime entertainment. Id force him and Kent Hovind to duel to the death, winner gets fed to the wood chipper legs first.

He was a big mouthpiece for their propaganda. My coworkers yesterday were a surprising bunch, because apparently many of their families enjoyed listening to his "debates."
Underestimating the influence of 'influencers' is part of what got us trump in the first place.
Honestly I didn't even know who he was, but clearly he was low hanging fruit with minimal security protection. The scariest thing about that video is thousands of young people at a "University" cheering on hate.
They made Babbit a matyr, and she rushed Capitol police during a violet mob attack on Congress, through a barricade, while cops shouted for her to stop. The cop that killed her fired a single, controlled shot. He was not firing wildly or with malice. She was ex military, and should have realized what guns drawn and warnings about deadly force meant. Bystanders next to her admitted to hearing the police warning her as she breached the barricades, but she did it anyway.
Her mother just got a 5 million dollar settlement from the government and she got a full military burial with honors.
They don't need an actual reason for a martyr. They will invent reasons after the fact regardless of what happens.
Trump admin won't let this go to waste. They'll find a suitable patsy, then justify taking guns away from everyone except card carrying nazis, I mean GOP members.
Nah they'll pass an assault weapon ban first, get the liberals to cheer it on. Some Democrats will start to lean Trump just to get guns taken away, then full gun control will be enacted.
My local news reported that a black clad figure was seen running across a rooftop immediately following the shooting so they’re trying to ID who it was. It’s the same rooftop where there have already been reports the shot likely came from. I forget the name of the building though.

Trans people are like sub 1% of the us population. These guys are busy.
I really don't understand how you can actually believe something like that. Because of my wild 20's i happen to know a lot of trans or gay or LGBTQ people in general, or more than the average person. If they were that violent, i would know so many murderers. In reality they are just the nicest people imaginable.
I get that they obviously don't know trans people, probably have never seen one, or if they did, they didn't even know. But even that fact should make you wonder, no?
I was at work and some random guy complained about how many jews live here and why that's a problem, and i just thought that i don't even know any jew. I worked for one once, and every now and then i see three or four walking around, but only recognise them because they are orthodox and dress like amish people. I actually had to look it up and in and around the next city, there are only 2000 jews, like what are you on about?
WSJ is claiming that the rounds recovered from the weapon used had pro trans / "antifascist" things engraved on the bullets - make of that what you will. Generally WSJ's reporting is factually accurate but incredibly biased, so there's that? Fuckin' hell though this is already such a fucking clusterfuck.
That's completely standard in journalism - and the WSJ, despite being an aggressively horrible publication politically and morally, is quite respected for the strict veracity of it's reporting. I don't doubt they were told that, by a reputable source. I have no idea if it's true beyond that however, since the trump admin isn't exactly overflowing with decent quality human beings.
Like I said, truly awful morally. Not about to argue against that. But your link doesn't speak to their adherence to reporting strictly true (if heavily manipulated as to the apparent context and implications) information, which is all I've claimed. They fuckin' suck, but they know that, and they delight in being able to pull a charlie kirk smug face and pull out the recipts when challenged on it.
I can't say I would be surprised for that to be the case.
I think it's far more likely for it to have been one decent person who couldn't take the constant hatred spewed by Kirk. Everyone knows this has been brewing, for it to finally pop on Mr 'Puts His Punchable Face Right Out There And Taunts You For Not Hitting Him" himself isn't much of a surprise.
Telecom black rooms, Flock mass AI surveillance, NSA secret catalogue of zero days... we control the internet backbone and a lot of traffic flows through our country just because it's cheaper to route that way.
That's why we have fusion centers right? You can't use your fancy spy tech without people parallel constructing a plausible scenario for how someone was really caught.
Maybe they know where the shooter is right now and they're just waiting for people to finish the story. Social media post, a call to an old friend, have a tip placed anonymously, suddenly they find him at McDonald's.
They might find the shooter analyzing footage of the area but if the camera setup had anywhere near as many holes as any other college I've been to their chances are low, basically hoping social media got the shooter in the background.
It's also odd bc within hours of somebody being shot on a public street there was a video and sketch released, but with this guy they allegedly have ccTV footage of him, but they haven't even released it to the public
That's not the most dystopian surveillance tech around. It gets both more intrusive and more effective...
Think constant drone surveillance over a whole region. High res cameras, massive storage and long loiter times with glider like drones. You can just keep recording, and then when something like this happens, you just play the video back for the whole last day, following your suspect backward in time to when they left their home in the morning. The system isn't even all that expensive to operate.
And the conspiracy theories are are already flowing. Apparently Kirk was convinced Israel was going to assassinate him so he had more security and wore body armor during public appearances recently. Another is that he pissed off the Nazi's to the point they wanted him gone. Another is that it was a distraction op.
It's been a fun read the last few hours. Like "Who Shot Mr. Burns?" so....it was probably a baby.
Yeah, but the people controlling him, like some sort of geriatric meat marionette, are that smart. They are the ones putting the Executive Orders in front of this senile bag of burgers and controlling exactly what he says. The only time you get a glimpse behind the scenes is when he nervously flagilates on Live TV and doesn't have a prompter to guide him along.
That implies he can play chess. I do see the logic, I could see someone wanting to sac a pawn. There are a lot of dumb theories about who could be playing Trump, like the Russians, or Thiel or whoever, so I don't want to speculate who
Because all conspiracy theories, after you strip away all the overly elaborate chains of communication, the gob smackingly large amount of people who would need to know and be completely silent, and overly complex reasons, always ends up back to the Jews.
Hi FBI, I have great news! I've done extensive My Own Research and after carefully reviewing the footage, maps of the university, and consulting with the gods of psilocybin, I have concluded with a high degree of certainty that his neck just kinda did that. Hope this helps!
Led by "it was clearly suicide" Kash Patel. While all evidence slipped away, they had the wrong guy in custody for 6 hours. This was a critical window but a bunch of sycophant gravy seals are not going to figure this out.
Considering they went after kirk instead of a bigger fish it's probably somebody deeply personally offended by his minimization of school shootings. That should just narrow it down to all the people who survived a school shooting or lost somebody to one. That's a short list right?
Honestly if you are going to kill someone in a high profile incident Utah is probably the best place. Easy to get into easy to get out of, for all we know the killer is gambling in Blackjack Nevada after proving their luck with that shot.
I wouldn't be surprised if there weren't lots of open carry types there too making it almost impossible to figure out who to suspect. The school allowed guns on campus.
You missed the point, it wouldn't stop it, he meant that since everyone open carries, the amount of suspects significantly increases, and no one would find it suspicious for someone to be carrying a gun on campus.
You don't get the point of those laws and signs. You see. If it's illegal to bring weapons to that area, then you can stop someone BEFORE they start shooting people. You can even charge them and take their guns away. You know they're doing something illegal, because they are armed illegally. Look at the Vegas shooter, he openly carried an absurd amount of legally possessed weaponry into a hotel room, no questions asked. If that wasn't legal? Well. He'd have to actually put some effort into this.
really i'd think a would-be assassin would prefer a state without the death penalty and a state that they also wouldn't have to leave so as to avoid federal charges.
Who said they're from Utah? I'm just stating that Utah is the cross section of many highways not even accounting for dirt mountain roads, it'd be relatively easy to get your shit together in advance "go camping in a remote area" and then put a round in Kirk. Then it's just a matter of putting as much distance between you and the scene while leaving as little physical evidence it was you. If they can avoid getting caught for about a week I suspect they'll be home free.
I think the shooter was good, but not a professional. They knew enough to sight in their scope accurately, but not enough to account for bullet drop. Nobody aims for the neck. Odds are he was aiming for the head. If you zero in your sight for 100 yards, the bullet can drop 3 or 4 inches once it gets to 200. And he seems to have disappeared without a trace, so he planned it well. I assume he cleaned up after himself. Odds are they'll never find him.
Him? You mean they/them, right? Cause it was obviously a far-left transgender liberal progressive with blue hair. The whole GOP said so on Twitter. Surely they can't be using this death to trigger more violence, can they?
Looks like a white male to me. Likely on the right side of the aisle judging by the attire. I think that whole thing about the bullets / guns having messages on them is grade a horse shit.
That's some dude they found that looks kinda suspicious which is currently their best guess for who the shooter might be, not the confirmed THIS GUY IS THE SHOOTER guy
Bolt action ejects the casing as well, given you perform the bolt action. Not sure how confident they were the first shot will be enough, and time is everything so I assumed they performed the bolt action to prepare to finish the job if anything didn't go according to plan.
Yeah, a lot of people have been going on about "he must have had sniper training" and I'm like no man, 200 yards is a pretty normal shot for a hunter. Heck I've shot deer at 150 with iron sights.
I'm inclined to agree with you on the whole probably just a guy who went to the range that fell down a rabbit hole.
I saw someone saying he must have been a professional because he "hit a spot smaller than a quarter from 200 yards"... Like, my dude, you are assuming the goal was to hit that exact spot? Every bullet "hits a spot smaller than a quarter" from every range. I agree this wasn't likely to be the first time this person held or shot a rifle, but he also doesn't need to be Jason Bourne...
big difference from making that shot on a target field, and knowing you are going to kill someone, and have to get away with it.
No amateur would have taken one single shot, see the Trump shooting.
It was a bolt action rifle, not an AR like was used in the Trump shooting, you aren't going to fire 3 rounds before you know what the first one did. And you are assuming an average person in a mental state that both understands and cares about the sanctity of life.
His target was moving and he had a very limited line of site, and still managed to hit 2 out of 3 shots.
That kinda shit is what professional shooters can do.
This was 1 shot at a fairly standard range on a target literally sitting in a chair on a well lit stage. You don’t need to be a professional to make that shot. I’ve had friends on their first day shooting make shots like that with a decent rifle, some coaching, and about 10 rounds of practice at shorter ranges.
Law enforcement usually does not care enough to solve a crossword puzzle - but there's surprisingly few cases that can't be solved through the careful application of an overwhelmingly massive surveillance apparatus (See: luigi - who could have gotten away with it had they not managed to find the hostel camera footage)
I'm really hoping this proves not to be the case here, just including the prior as a caution to anyone planning to be gay and do crimes that you can't actually discount the cops completely. (And from having worked with LE in the past, the absolute #1 way to not get caught is to never ever tell anyone about it. Not your friends, not your mom, lips sealed no matter how cool it was. The number of calls in to their tip lines with people ratting out friend-of-friends is crazy.)
No way, I'm sure he's kept the gun with him, along with a hard copy of his manifesto, just like Luigi did! It's just what you do after you assassinate somebody.
Why would they need to do that? Just go to a gun show. Conduct a "private purchase" of a Mauser. Kill some vermin. Go back to live your life.
The gun probably isn't connected to that person in any traceable way.
AFAIK some signs of usage are on the gun and left on his hands from the pressure when firing shortly after the shot was fired? Also I thought every gun in the USA is labeled with a code to identify them? I thought because of this they could also sink the gun into some random river or water-body. I guess this would be hard to find.
They have serial numbers, but many states don't require firearm registration or recording private sales. Back when I lived in the States, the state I lived in required an initial background check if purchasing from a retailer. After that, it could change hands five times with no records.
I’m sure they will be checking in on Biden this morning. Old sleepy joe is at it again. The evil master mind that is also a bumbling idiot. It’s amazing how much he can do for being so old and tired.
I've been wondering and did some research for the lazy - seems like capture innevitable though.
I searched around in almost every contemporary (2010+) assassin has been caught or identified in the developed world. I could only find a few cases in Europe and Ukraine where high profile assassinations hadn't been resolved but only because the assassins are ruzi agents.
Seems like modern police tools can really find anyone given enough resources and motivation.
Yeah, I can see them nabbing a random trans woman to fit their narrative. Then use to justify that removal of 2A, classification of trans people as “domestic terrorists,” justify stochastic terrorism against trans people…
But Charlie told me trans people were unhinged and responsible for mass shootings, not highly precise targeted assassinations. Just go ask Char… oh, right.
Yeah but they've recently cleaned house and fired every single person they believed was somehow involved in January 6th. Even those that just handled paperwork.
It's pretty concerning they've already botched this so badly.
Honestly they might have even less then they did on Luigi, there is no video, at least clear video of the shooter. It was from 200 feet away, if he used a bolt action and was smart he didn't even cock the gun so the casing stays inside the gun.

Warl0k3@lemmy.world · 9 pts · 339d
WSJ is claiming that the rounds recovered from the weapon used had pro trans / "antifascist" things engraved on the bullets - make of that what you will. Generally WSJ's reporting is factually accurate but incredibly biased, so there's that? Fuckin' hell though this is already such a fucking clusterfuck.
BlameTheAntifa@lemmy.world · 12 pts · 339d
“Sources say” makes this highly dubious.
Warl0k3@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 339d
That's completely standard in journalism - and the WSJ, despite being an aggressively horrible publication politically and morally, is quite respected for the strict veracity of it's reporting. I don't doubt they were told that, by a reputable source. I have no idea if it's true beyond that however, since the trump admin isn't exactly overflowing with decent quality human beings.

In Xinjiang, administrators logged people as high, medium, or low risk, often according to 100-point scores with deductions for factors like growing a beard, being 15 to 55 years old, or just being Uyghur.

Say goodbye to privacy.

I'm just stating that Utah is the cross section of many highways not even accounting for dirt mountain roads, it'd be relatively easy to get your shit together in advance "go camping in a remote area" and then put a round in Kirk.

It's a false flag murder by the GOP and Donald Trump.

Whoever did this will have been at a party, far away, which dozens of people can confirm.

I'm really disappointed that the shooter won't be found.
Now I don't know who to project my good vibes and gratitude to.

Honestly they might have even less then they did on Luigi, there is no video, at least clear video of the shooter. It was from 200 feet away, if he used a bolt action and was smart he didn't even cock the gun so the casing stays inside the gun.

Is MAGAT supposed to be MAGA Tard?
ProdigalFrog@slrpnk.net · 6 pts · 339d
I think it's supposed to resemble Maggot.

They won't catch the shooter because Kash Patel doesn't want them to.
If it was a Mossad. mafia or CIA hit, they are probably not even in the country anymore.

Never say something is malice, when it could be just simple incompetence.
