Rare Earth minerals and the skills and equipment to process them are not in the Western world. It is, however, in a grand multitude of countries elsewhere in the world, all of which wouldn't be considered "white". And... That covers everything from guided missiles to toys.
The most efficient production lines in the world, with the most advanced manufacturing capabilities, are in China. China sells the equipment and the skill to manage the equipment to its neighbours, and we get everything from clothes to tooth brushes from that.
The world has ONE, only ONE, major source of Gum Arabic, which is a country in Africa you've probably never even heard of. This includes the skills and expertise to manufacture it, and it's used in food and paint.
Do I even need to mention where the world gets the majority of its oil from, and where all the skilled workers and equipment is to process said oil? Or how important oil is to the world, even completely discounting its use as a fuel?

Skills and technology can always be reproduced, more easily if adequate documentation exists. However, that is not your premise. Your premise is no skills or technology would be lost, which is just wrong. All of it will be lost, and whoever will be left will need to go through the long process of learning and reproducing said skills and technology, which can take multiple generations.
One of my favorite facts was that West Side Story was initially about the rivalry between polish and Italian immigrants in New York and Leonard Bernstein had to rework it because he received feedback that it would be too niche and people who didn't live in New York in a very specific window of time wouldn't get it.

"White" is a relatively modern concept, and one that can be quite nebulous. I see some people call Bernie Sanders white, but I also see white nationalists who dont consider Jews white. Back when the British were committing a genocicde against the Irish and driving millions of Catholic refugees into a predominantly Protestant America they weren't considered white. Some Nazis considered Japanese people "honorary whites". People around the Mediterranean are a whole mixed bag- Italians, Greeks, and Spaniards have all been treated as white or non-white at times. Racists still debate whether Cleopatra and other Coptic Egyptians should count as "white" or not.
And of course Europeans have been making up divisions and killing each other over it for centuries. The very concepts of "Italy" and "France" and "Germany" and "Spain" and the like are pnky a few generations old.
It's not just "white" people though. The Japanese have a history of committing atrocities against their neighbors in Korea and China. Chinese history is largely the story of the Han people conquering the nations around them, and they are still committing genocide against groups like the Uyghurs and Tibetans today. Sudan had the genocide of the Darfuri in the early 2000's. The Rohingya genocide in Myanmar is still ongoing. We could go on and on.
The idea that only "white" people are racist is, itself, a racist idea.

One of the weird things about being mixed race is that people feel comfortable telling me about their racial views.
There are a bunch of racial and ethnic prejudices that white people (particularly white Americans) don't even know exist.
One funny thing is that many forms of racism focus don't focus on skin color and instead focus on other arbitrary markers; ear lobes, noses, hair patterns.

I assume people with medium lightness would be categorized contextually by them, sort of like how people with skin tones that don't read clearly black or white are irl. If someone with ambiguous eyes is wearing a hand sleeve and acting noble you'll assume she's a light eyes, but if she's wearing a glove and interacting with laborers you'll assume she's a dark eyes.
The semantical arguments about who counts as “white” already exist and often in very hate filled ways. Alt right “preserve the white race” people already try to bring back the pre world war 2 “Italians don’t count as white” nonsense. And of course tons of Italian Americans are certainly not known for progressive stances
Don't forget that WASPs often excluded entire professions to what they considered 'lesser' whites and catholics and Jews.
Ben Shapiro once said that Jews might not be good at the NBA like blacks when he doesn't realize (or does but is lying) that Jews dominated basketball in the 1920s and 1930s. Ironically then as now racism played a role in stereotyping them. Since Jews were seen as crafty and intelligently sneaky this was seen as manifesting in the sport, which often does need deception to get ahead.
The concept of whiteness comes from the Spanish inquisition after the fall of Grenada. Being fair skinned was a way of proving without a doubt that you weren't a jew or a muslim.
My guess is we'd start dividing up amongst religious heritage again. Mormons vs. Evangelicals Vs. Protestants Vs. Catholics Vs. The Real Christians
Also the Spanish discriminated against Muslims who converted to Christian and doubted their faith as true. This was a generational thing since even their grandchildren were seen as suspect even if they and their parents were born and raised Catholic.

Having just come from the "taking things too literally" thread, contexts like these make it fun to deliberately take it too literally.
What would I do if I woke up and there were only white people left? I'd probably think "what the fuck is going on" as I see only white people floating around in empty space, and then I'd die from a mix of lack of oxygen, hypothermia, and lack of pressure.
Though maybe I'd first ask a clarifying question, like if that "black people" was just an example or would there still be like asians, and latinos? Do Irish and Italians count as white for this question? Basically set it up to look like I'm engaging with the question in good faith before taking the "clarification" to the extreme and giving the above answer.
And then poke at whatever new edge cases they leave when they try to clarify again, until I get bored and just disengage because it was a fucking dumb question.

I get it, I gave up looking over there when they killed my apps. I'm happier (and less addicted) here than I was before. Literally already happened a dozen times. Some power hungry piece of shit is already trying to convince his (it's always a man) neighbors them down-the-block Whites are going to kill them unless they donate to the "Nah I'm a good one" fund. You can't leave too many White people alone. Just look at the Hamptons. Or the US South. Or US history in any window of time.
I think hair color would be the more obvious first choice, though it is changeable. Someone mentioned skin color again and I agree that would likely happen. Were I to throw an odd one out: handedness becomes the next source of discrimination.
As for what I would do, immediately mourn the loss of my wife and probably die in short order since white people make up a tiny fraction of Japan's population and certain sensitive jobs aren't open to those who aren't Japanese citizens anyway meaning all kinds of stuff breaks down almost immediately.
They already did, if that didn't exist, they'd divide themselves by language, which is a thing in Europe, except it got less popular due to the importing of American White Nationalism.
All of Africa would be without civilization, just isolated pockets of Asians and white people on trips to find themselves, now without local guides. They're all going to die unless the remaining governments organize rescue missions. You would hear about this.
Without civilization, it becomes difficult to sustain farms and mines, so even if governments fly in farmers, farm hands and miners to claim the fields and mines, the plants will wither and the mines will barely run. While I imagine most crops are produced for the local market that also died, African products for the global economy, chocolate, palm oil, gold and uranium, will see their prices shoot through the roof in anticipation of the inevitable crop failure and ore shortages. You would hear about this.
Inevitably, unclaimed land with huge amounts of profitable farmland and mines will receive claims, from China, who invested a lot into local infrastructure, former colonial powers reinstating their borders, or whatever remains of Arabian states whose populations didn't qualify, and also whoever could fly in some pioneers and reestablish trade routes. That will result in border frictions, skirmishes and maybe full on war. It's possible you would miss the war, I personally always forget the US-Iran war is still happening, so I'll give you that. US would probably stay out of that one, trying to restart its own agricultural industry.

It's not just white people, look at post-colonial states. Africa and Latin America has had in-fighting after independence, but thankfully Latin America haven't been at war with each other since early 20th century. Central Asia and Caucasus after the fall of the Soviet Union are not getting along. And I don't need to mention the Middle East. India and Pakistan are always dick measuring. I think East Asia is the only region where there haven't had a prolong intra-fighting, but only because the fragmented geography makes cross-country invasions pretty much impossible.
You didn't even have to remove white people for black people to start subdividing into shades of black. Racism is stupid. Being a certain race doesn't make it any more or less stupid for you to do it.
Frantically search for my wife? She's neither white nor black so doesn't technically fit this yet I'd be forced to assume a malevolent enemy is experimenting on mankind.
Bigots are gonna bigot. For these regressive knuckle-draggers, there's no future with zero divisions between groups human beings. Even if the entire human race were all genetic clones of each other, they'd find a way.
A huge chunk of the export of goods and labour from "non-white" countries would obviously stop. Just imagine how many companies would be robbed of their outsourced IT. Clothing made in southern Asia. Metals from Africa. Oil. Cheap off-season produce. The list is long.
On the other hand, their absent imports would ruin, for instance, farmers whose income depends on the export of grain. Many of the net importers of food are "non-white" countries, so that would be one market breaking down.
Even if we disregard the personal loss, the economic implosion would rapidly have us turning on each other in a panicked attempt to secure a future in the unpredictable upheaval.

Rare Earth minerals and the skills and equipment to process them are not in the Western world. It is, however, in a grand multitude of countries elsewhere in the world, all of which wouldn't be considered "white". And... That covers everything from guided missiles to toys.
The most efficient production lines in the world, with the most advanced manufacturing capabilities, are in China. China sells the equipment and the skill to manage the equipment to its neighbours, and we get everything from clothes to tooth brushes from that.
The world has ONE, only ONE, major source of Gum Arabic, which is a country in Africa you've probably never even heard of. This includes the skills and expertise to manufacture it, and it's used in food and paint.
Do I even need to mention where the world gets the majority of its oil from, and where all the skilled workers and equipment is to process said oil? Or how important oil is to the world, even completely discounting its use as a fuel?

One of my favorite facts was that West Side Story was initially about the rivalry between polish and Italian immigrants in New York and Leonard Bernstein had to rework it because he received feedback that it would be too niche and people who didn't live in New York in a very specific window of time wouldn't get it.

Literally Brexit was mostly about Brits not liking other Europeans being free to move to Britain, especially Poles.
I lived in London and unless they actually start talking and you hear their accent (or, even "worse" for the average Brit, their language) you can't actually tell a Pole from a Brit.
So. yeah, a fucking mid-sized country in the modern era has left a massive European trade union which gave them massive benefits (it has been estimated that Britain's GDP is growing 2% less every year because of leaving) because of their xenophobia against other Europeans, especially Eastern and Southern Europeans.

"White" is a relatively modern concept, and one that can be quite nebulous. I see some people call Bernie Sanders white, but I also see white nationalists who dont consider Jews white. Back when the British were committing a genocicde against the Irish and driving millions of Catholic refugees into a predominantly Protestant America they weren't considered white. Some Nazis considered Japanese people "honorary whites". People around the Mediterranean are a whole mixed bag- Italians, Greeks, and Spaniards have all been treated as white or non-white at times. Racists still debate whether Cleopatra and other Coptic Egyptians should count as "white" or not.
And of course Europeans have been making up divisions and killing each other over it for centuries. The very concepts of "Italy" and "France" and "Germany" and "Spain" and the like are pnky a few generations old.
It's not just "white" people though. The Japanese have a history of committing atrocities against their neighbors in Korea and China. Chinese history is largely the story of the Han people conquering the nations around them, and they are still committing genocide against groups like the Uyghurs and Tibetans today. Sudan had the genocide of the Darfuri in the early 2000's. The Rohingya genocide in Myanmar is still ongoing. We could go on and on.
The idea that only "white" people are racist is, itself, a racist idea.

I'm mixed race and it's disturbing how true this is. One of the weird things about being mixed race is that people feel comfortable telling me about their racial views.
There are a bunch of racial and ethnic prejudices that white people (particularly white Americans) don't even know exist.
One funny thing is that many forms of racism focus don't focus on skin color and instead focus on other arbitrary markers; ear lobes, noses, hair patterns.

I don't know there are other ethnicity that are pretty good at it. All I can say with certainty is that humans are very good at it. Never seen another animal care about anothers colour so much. Could you imagine if other animals separated by color it would be ridiculous.

I assume people with medium lightness would be categorized contextually by them, sort of like how people with skin tones that don't read clearly black or white are irl. If someone with ambiguous eyes is wearing a hand sleeve and acting noble you'll assume she's a light eyes, but if she's wearing a glove and interacting with laborers you'll assume she's a dark eyes.

Don't forget that WASPs often excluded entire professions to what they considered 'lesser' whites and catholics and Jews.
Ben Shapiro once said that Jews might not be good at the NBA like blacks when he doesn't realize (or does but is lying) that Jews dominated basketball in the 1920s and 1930s. Ironically then as now racism played a role in stereotyping them. Since Jews were seen as crafty and intelligently sneaky this was seen as manifesting in the sport, which often does need deception to get ahead.

The concept of whiteness comes from the Spanish inquisition after the fall of Grenada. Being fair skinned was a way of proving without a doubt that you weren't a jew or a muslim.

Having just come from the "taking things too literally" thread, contexts like these make it fun to deliberately take it too literally.
What would I do if I woke up and there were only white people left? I'd probably think "what the fuck is going on" as I see only white people floating around in empty space, and then I'd die from a mix of lack of oxygen, hypothermia, and lack of pressure.
Though maybe I'd first ask a clarifying question, like if that "black people" was just an example or would there still be like asians, and latinos? Do Irish and Italians count as white for this question? Basically set it up to look like I'm engaging with the question in good faith before taking the "clarification" to the extreme and giving the above answer.
And then poke at whatever new edge cases they leave when they try to clarify again, until I get bored and just disengage because it was a fucking dumb question.

To me, anybody who can genuinely think in binary terms of “white” people and “black” people probably has a very limited exposure to the entire colour palette of humanity and, again, this is conjecture, probably has a damaging US-centric view of what is a global issue.

Um, because perhaps I’m currently living somewhere with only a tiny handful of black people - none of whom are burglars? So locking or not locking my door would make zero difference in the event of all black people disappearing.
On the occasions when I have lived almost exclusively surrounded by black people crime was the last of my concerns - but that wasn’t in a US city.
I’m not upset by the post - just a bit exasperated that ragebait shit like this happens online.
Firstly - how exactly are we defining black? One parent? Both parents? All four grand parents? All eight grandparents? Is blue-black different to brown-black? I mean, really, who is honestly capable of adjudicating such an arbitrary line?
Secondly - the saddest bit is that in China and India, most of the rest of Asia, vast swathes of South América and in the Antarctic… this ridiculous made-up bullshit scenario would have little immediate impact; apart from a mention on the news.
Thinking, even as a thought experiment, the stupidity of this question beggars belief, in my opinion. Maybe it’s a self-tell that you jump on your white stallion to defend this worthless stirring of tensions in possible hypothetical scenarios.

Is it like everyone turned white or every non white person has disappeared? The first one is the most "fun" to imagine, as in the other case, we lost a lot of people and that's very sad...
You can imagine people of color experiencing strong body disphoria at first.
Maybe grouping by ex color vs always white, and people pretending to be from one group or the other since their will be no way to discern.
Maybe language, accents and dialect can be used to try to flag people (for those who cares of course).
Maybe hair color would be another way to discriminate people, before eyes color. Height? Tattoo? We would always find ways unfortunately...
Other impact might be mass migration as white skin is not adapted to sunny weather. Lots of sunburn...
Cults created around this event (the Whitening), some see it as good, other as a tragedy. Whatever happened was unexplainable and baffles scientist around the world. Maybe a belief that another wave of color change will happen in the future.

You might be right, but it would be hard to publish a book with this concept and not create at least a small controversy. But that may be the point of Art in a way? Shake things up and create dialog? But it would almost seems tame compared to what is happening in the real world IDK 😐

Literally already happened a dozen times. Some power hungry piece of shit is already trying to convince his (it's always a man) neighbors them down-the-block Whites are going to kill them unless they donate to the "Nah I'm a good one" fund. You can't leave too many White people alone. Just look at the Hamptons. Or the US South. Or US history in any window of time.

I think hair color would be the more obvious first choice, though it is changeable. Someone mentioned skin color again and I agree that would likely happen. Were I to throw an odd one out: handedness becomes the next source of discrimination.
As for what I would do, immediately mourn the loss of my wife and probably die in short order since white people make up a tiny fraction of Japan's population and certain sensitive jobs aren't open to those who aren't Japanese citizens anyway meaning all kinds of stuff breaks down almost immediately.

All of Africa would be without civilization, just isolated pockets of Asians and white people on trips to find themselves, now without local guides. They're all going to die unless the remaining governments organize rescue missions. You would hear about this.
Without civilization, it becomes difficult to sustain farms and mines, so even if governments fly in farmers, farm hands and miners to claim the fields and mines, the plants will wither and the mines will barely run. While I imagine most crops are produced for the local market that also died, African products for the global economy, chocolate, palm oil, gold and uranium, will see their prices shoot through the roof in anticipation of the inevitable crop failure and ore shortages. You would hear about this.
Inevitably, unclaimed land with huge amounts of profitable farmland and mines will receive claims, from China, who invested a lot into local infrastructure, former colonial powers reinstating their borders, or whatever remains of Arabian states whose populations didn't qualify, and also whoever could fly in some pioneers and reestablish trade routes. That will result in border frictions, skirmishes and maybe full on war. It's possible you would miss the war, I personally always forget the US-Iran war is still happening, so I'll give you that. US would probably stay out of that one, trying to restart its own agricultural industry.

I never said I would not find out it happened. Probably hear about it in a couple days because even without all the consequences auch a high amount of people vanishing would be strange and reported on.
I would in my daily goings on probably not notice it because I cannot recall the last time I saw a black person more than just like at a glance. There really is just so few of them here

It's not just white people, look at post-colonial states. Africa and Latin America has had in-fighting after independence, but thankfully Latin America haven't been at war with each other since early 20th century. Central Asia and Caucasus after the fall of the Soviet Union are not getting along. And I don't need to mention the Middle East. India and Pakistan are always dick measuring. I think East Asia is the only region where there haven't had a prolong intra-fighting, but only because the fragmented geography makes cross-country invasions pretty much impossible.

Well, a huge part of our economy would collapse.
A huge chunk of the export of goods and labour from "non-white" countries would obviously stop. Just imagine how many companies would be robbed of their outsourced IT. Clothing made in southern Asia. Metals from Africa. Oil. Cheap off-season produce. The list is long.
On the other hand, their absent imports would ruin, for instance, farmers whose income depends on the export of grain. Many of the net importers of food are "non-white" countries, so that would be one market breaking down.
Even if we disregard the personal loss, the economic implosion would rapidly have us turning on each other in a panicked attempt to secure a future in the unpredictable upheaval.
