Even if the US somehow manages to have another election and elect a sane president, it will be an almost impossible task to undo all the damage the Trump regime did.

They literally laid it all out in Project 2025. There are some nuances to how it's unfolding but this is what they wanted.
state_electrician@discuss.tchncs.de · 59 pts · 319d
Exactly. I don't know why anybody is surprised about this shit. They literally wrote down what they'd do once they came back into power. Project 2025 is their Mein Kampf.
TrickDacy@lemmy.world · 76 pts · 320d
Yeah I think this is the headline that finally did it for me. Hurting Democrats isn't enough, hurting minorities isn't enough. They want the country to no longer exist. They want a smouldering pile of rubble left, literally preferably, but they'll accept metaphorical if that's all they can get. The point of this administration is to destroy America and kill as many citizens in the process as humanly possible.
No matter how bad it's seemed I swear fucking God the next day it's proven worse than that. At no point was it possible to accurately assess how royally fucked we are or how evil these Nazis are. And you'll have Republicans defending all this shit even if they personally are being sent to the gulag. They'd say we're overreacting even as they themselves are having the executioner's hood forced over their heads. I don't understand how it would be possible to use the power of government in more evil ways.
z3rOR0ne@lemmy.ml · 66 pts · 319d
It's accelerationism. You burn it down so you can rebuild it how you want. Once all is rubble they'll say "You see? Democracy was just a pie in the sky experiment that was destined to fail. Now let's go back to monarchy."
Remember who burned it down, and never forget, No Fucking Kings. Not now, not ever.
TrickDacy@lemmy.world · 14 pts · 319d
I would agree, but I actually see it more as sadistic and wanting people to suffer. They could literally destroy the government entirely without so much suffering as is currently being set into motion. But that wouldn't get their rocks off.
z3rOR0ne@lemmy.ml · 26 pts · 319d
Just look at the life of Steven Miller as documented in the book, Hatemonger, and you'll get an idea of just one example of exactly who we're dealing with here. These people are monsters.
You can look into the history of any one of these grifters, racists, antisemites, transphobes, homophobes, fascists, and it becomes very apparent that they hate everything and everyone around them, and in some cases even hate themselves. Heck, ICE is nothing but a cadre of misanthropic hatemongers all worked up into a frenzy probably due to an excess consumption of various legal/illegal stimulants along with Matt Walsh, Tucker Carlson, etc. being pumped into their eyes and ears all day and night.
If you think monsters would simply murder without doing the more than occasional bit of torture, then I'd simply invite you to think again.

I don't think it's quite that Captain Planet.
The ruling elite in the US are all several generations down the line of nepotism. None of them have ever had to experience consequences, nor learn a lesson, they are just stupid rich people who think they're rich on their own merits.
There are a few very rich very evil people who are playing them like puppets though and they're too stupid to notice.
Oh, wait that is pretty Captain Planet.
TrickDacy@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 319d
I noticed nothing you said contradicts my assertion that they actively want people dead. Nothing about being rich means you need to go out of your way to mass murder. I don't even see how they could profit from this decision

balsoft@lemmy.ml · -1 pts · 319d
Nah, that would at least be a good thing for the rest of the world. What they want is for a few rich white guys to rule over the entire world (including US itself) with an iron fist. They would still need the MIC, military and stuff for that to happen. It's going to be grim for all americans not in those industries though, for sure.

Way to slide in the America hate, divorced of all reason. The United States, like many other countries, is a vital part of global economics and nuking it from orbit is a bad thing for others as well. You'd think at this point in history people wouldn't be so stupid to think in such myopic and isolationist ways, but there's never a limit on stupidity, I'm reminded every day

Defend your country from the radical left, protect the fascists from criticism, and ensure america remains a political tool to oppress all nations with its military and ideological war. Keep defending this shit country while inequality grows and real people's problems only get worse.

... because they violently overthrow any government that tries to dedollarize. This is the only reason US is still part of global economics.
Will there be an economic downturn? Sure, for a bit, while countries adjust. But there will also be much less war and genocide, which is worth it on its own, and by now the US doesn't have any real industrial sector apart from weapons manufacturing so supply chains won't be affected much (with very few exceptions, like airplanes).
Of course a revolution in the US would be better, but I don't see that happening for a while. TBH neither do I see america truly being destroyed by Trump, he seems to have something worse in mind as I've said.

That is precisely the reason for the existential dread this has brought to my life as I ponder what kind of world will be left to my kids when I die.
I can't even rest assured that people in power after Trump will not be Trumpists, and even if I could be assured of that, I'm not at all sure we're going to get all this shit fixed before whatever the next catastrophe is.
I expect to die of old age in a world where we have not yet returned to at least as good as where things were when Trump took over. (and there was already a lot of fucked up shit then.)
And as someone who has spent nearly six decades rooting for humanity in most ways, I'm pretty fucking disappointed that we dropped the ball this hard on this one.

I really think revolutionaries massively underestimate how much of society is built on well functioning and enduring institutions, and how much more difficult it is to build them from scratch compared to reforming them (in many, but not all cases).
That being said, the US is a basket case, so perhaps a revolution might be worth it.
Still sceptical, though.

I do hope leaders emerge who can harness the modern levers to our brains in a constructive way, but even if that started next year at the midterms, the decades of work ahead just to get back to the institutional knowledge and regulatory protections that existed last year exceed my life expectancy. The hope is that happens so my nieces and nephews will benefit.

But this is inviting real ones. Legitimate threats and dangers to our lives that they will not be prepared to defend against the same way they can against a young person wearing clothes they think dont match their gender stereotype.
They will view this as a positive that their protections are being taken away for them to have to protect themselves and it will kill people who thank the abusers for the privilege.

No no no that's not what I meant. I ABSOLUTELY see what you mean though.
I was more speaking on the idea that people with similar ideas tend to congregate, but when you've got such different places as Florida and California for example, there is bound to be significant infighting. That's like the UK sharing a tent with Iraq. They're separated by like 2500 miles, these are people's with different priorities, different lifestyles, different cultures. Its not to say they can't get along, but it should be under a federation more similar to the EU, a coalition of independent smaller Nations. NOT directly under the same national flag, and forced to be under the same code of laws.
Like, I get that this is skating the line of being xenophobic, but my intention isn't to prevent people from coming into a space, it is to prevent the space from expanding to contain people who don't want to be in it.
Edit: my distance was wrong, its still the same frlm place to place though

Different cultures? Hardly, the only reason there so much fighting is because the southern strategy was so effective they took it nation wide. Its intentional. Its not hard to get all of us to sing along we all loved James Dean for 50 years before this and it wasn't an issue. The only thing that was promised is when the rich have more power than entire countries they will use that to solidify their rule. America is a testing grouns for hostile corporate take over of a nation.

I'd argue that the US definitely has and had different cultures throughout it, hell the 13 colonies all had different cultures from eachother. The only reason it seemed like there was ever a unified culture is because WW1, the Great depression/dust bowl, and WW2 caused lots of folks to move about and amalgamate culturally. Note I ain't talking about the cultural melting pot but moreso it's nutrient paste cousin where everything is homogeneous to the point of having no flavor, the type of culture that lots of suburbanites have that you can find in SoCal as easily as you can find it in Massachusetts.
SpaceCowboy@lemmy.ca · 17 pts · 319d
Yeah I've been thinking this for awhile. The US isn't all that dissimilar to the Soviet Union was just before it collapsed. When people start thinking their ideology will magically solve a nation's problems instead of having skilled people working on those problems, that's not a country that can function for very long.
You never know, the US could turn things around. But right now it seems to be running on fumes. There's still people working in government in agencies that were formed when the government was run by somewhat competent people, so they're keeping the lights on. But if these ideological purges (not to mention general malaise) continue, there won't be enough to keep the lights on.

freddydunningkruger@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 319d
Bruh. Did I say vaccinated people are 100% immune? Nope! But it's a beautiful world of straw you live in! Hey, when there is a measles outbreak, do you think it's going to run rampant in communities where the majority of people vaccinate their children, or is it going to run rampant in the communities where people don't vaccinate at all? Do you know why that is, because that's how fricken vaccines work. Before I get a flu vaccine, do I ask myself, GARSH, DID EVERYONE GET A FLU VACCINE I SURE HOPE SO!!
Why do you think that is, hm? Gosh, that's right, because that is what vaccinations do! For some stupid reason you wanted to make it into some political, anti-Democrats, anti-US thing to punish us all for a group of ignorant Republicans. Here's a simple solution, if you are a country worried about measles: require people traveling to your country to be vaccinated.
Do you even know the top 10 countries with measles outbreaks? Did you know Yemen leads the list? Did you know India, Pakistan, Russia, Canada and Mexico are on the list? You better start calling your government and demanding to restrict your borders! Idiot.

Those numbers are worse than the country you are complaining about, why aren't you screaming to quarantine the EU? Very telling.

Alaknar@sopuli.xyz · 1 pts · 318d
One of the jobs of CDC and ECDC is to monitor and report the situation. There are countries with shitty vaccination programs (like Romania) or with strong anti-vax movements (like the US), and it's the job of organisations like CDC/ECDC to monitor the spread of viruses and advise preventative measures if things get out of control.
Without the CDC, we no longer know how viruses spread in the US which means everybody could be a carrier. THAT is the problem we're discussing - something that would have been obvious to you, had you pulled your head out of your arse, Mr Genius.

We know the direction the US is going even if you don't and we aren't going to be pulled down into being a shithole country like the US is becoming.
Russia is on the ropes right now, and the US doesn't have a good track record with occupying countries and can't even keep it's government running right now LOL. SpaceCowboy@lemmy.ca · 2 pts · 313d
No, we get news all about Alberta throughout the country. There's some idiots there to be sure, but they're the minority. The oil industry dominates there and they're only loyal to the almighty dollar. The farmers in Alberta don't seem to like how things are going with the oil industry domination of their politics, and certainly don't like the separatist bullshit promoted but the oil industry assholes that only care about money.
PP has had to moderate quite a lot and Mark Carney is what we call a Red Tory... a conservative in the Liberal Party. Carney has a lot of popularity because he appeals to traditional conservatives and liberals aren't going to be voting for PP, so that leaves the NDP which has lost the working class and seem directionless at the moment. PP is an internet weirdo (and only appeals to internet weirdos, not traditional conservatives) and there's a very good chance he'll be removed as leader of the party. There's a significant probability that Doug Ford will replace PP next year, but in any case the Conservative rhetoric now seems to be all about them being tougher on the US than Carney. Even with PP has had to push that kind of rhetoric.
See politics is more complicated that your simplistic view of things. There isn't really any chance that Canada will fall in line with Trump, it would be political suicide to do so. The only grumbling I hear is that Carney is being too friendly with Trump.
The other examples you listed are incumbents voted in before the tides turned.
Consider the possibility there may be more going on in politics in other countries than people just mindlessly copying the US. But there's an undercurrent throughout the world that Trump sucks (because he does) and politicians that resemble him are being rejected.
Sorry, but the US is sinking ship and everyone else in the world knows this and is trying to get as far from you as they can to avoid getting sucked down with you. You're the goofiest country in history going from the wealthiest country in the world to becoming a shithole country because something about your culture created the conditions so most of you got hypnotized by a real estate conman.

SpaceCowboy@lemmy.ca · 1 pts · 313d
I guess you realize now the MAGA style politics is losing traction outside of the US.
The US invading it's allies would be insane, and very costly. There's a reason why countries don't go to war with countries they do a lot of trade with. The US is already teetering on the brink of economic collapse and that would send it over the edge. Doesn't mean it won't happen, it was almost as stupid for Putin to invade Ukraine, authoritarians do stupid things sometimes.
But that's a low probability. You're being goofy if you don't realize a civil war within the US is a much more likely outcome than the US invading allied countries that will fight back. Of course Trump's supposed "enemy within" will fight back too, but the US is already in a cold civil war states are sending soldiers into other states. It's still cold since shots aren't being fired yet, but it could go hot. I hope for your sake it doesn't.
TronBronson@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 313d
I think there is a truly infinite number of plausible outcomes from here, not many would exclude Canada from the fate of the US. Americans are probably too lazy for civil war, but im not excluding that. This republican regime has friends in most nations and they are eager to buy more. There's nothing chaotic about what's going on in America, and Im not accusing you of mirroring our political beliefs, or claiming to understand yours. Im just saying there's a reason why JD Vance is visiting Germany for AfD rallies. This doesn't end with trump, and it doesn't stop in America. No one is out of reach of the American economy or military. Calling Putin stupid while he still occupies Ukraine is a great analogy of how I see your perceived independence from this chaos. Yes it's stupid, yes it's still happening, and yes the toll in human suffering is astounding.

Correct. That's how I initially figured it out.
Pam Bondi said 75% of Americans were saved. I laughed, that's 268,500,000 people, then it hit me. I've heard a number of the population that the Heritage Foundation believes is a "good number of Americans."
It was 100,000,000. Current population is 358,000,000. 89,500,000 is way too fucking close to 100,000,000 for it to be a coincidence. Then they started shutting life saving things down rapidly. They mentioned new census.
In another interview or maybe it was writing and I wish I could find it right now, "obviously executions would be a problem for the state, and would meet heavy resistance. Famine and disease happen all the time."
The disease one is obvious. But famine is much more nuanced. Tarrifs. Cutting farmers off from their ability to fund their farms. Cutting the food programs. Inflation in eggs. Think of how vital a source of nutrition eggs are.
