Pass.

Call me when they develop weed without pain relief that only gets you high as giraffe balls.

gemakey@lemmy.world · 23 pts · 37d (1 reply)

Huh...I've always heard "giraffe pussy." Lol I never thought about it the other way.

EvergreenGuru@lemmy.world · 14 pts · 37d

It takes 2 giraffes.

dil@piefed.zip · 6 pts · 37d

I hate the pain relief/numbing aspect of some strains, it makes me get comfortable in positions that don't make me feel bad til the nexy day and then I feel bad for a week

Dvixen@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 37d

Maybe you and I can go splits. You can have my share of the stone if I can have the pain relief part.

Darkenfolk@sh.itjust.works · 3 pts · 37d (1 reply)

Call me when they develop weed that gives all the pain and none of the relief!

Let's spice things up, russian roulette with weed instead of bullets.

HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 36d

so they have these gummy bears with a shitton of capsaican, like 9,000,000 scovilles or something. you're supposed to chew them for 5 minutes, and they say it's like getting maced in the mouth. maybe a 6/10 of pain or something, it's intense but it's over fast. also you can make it easier with milk, that'd probably drop it down to a 4/10 or something. But 5 minutes and it's over.

if you want a pain russian roulette, use those.

oopsgodisdeadmybad@lemmy.zip · 2 pts · 37d

Now that's the idea.

RisingSwell@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 2 pts · 37d (4 replies)

Ngl that just sounds like my normal weed for years. Originally took it for foot pain after work and it did nothing, but I was high as fuck and didn't care that much

TheStaffmaster@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 37d (3 replies)

that's kind of how it works though. The first time i took weed I was doing 12 hour shifts in kitchen work, and i noted how it didn't remove the pain, it just made me stop careing about it.

RisingSwell@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 2 pts · 37d (1 reply)

Definitely still couldn't walk properly because of pain, seems a bit pointless, but that's just me

TheStaffmaster@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 37d

TBF foot/leg pain to a 20 something, is not the same as chronic pain due to an injury, so i'm not discounting you, just voicing my experience.

also, i was smoking 'mersh not the medical grade stuff, so...

Kolanaki@pawb.social · 2 pts · 37d

Smoke enough of the right kinds, and it will make your skin numb.

socsa@piefed.social · 1 pts · 36d

Call me when they invent weed that makes me feel like I'm wearing grade 7 nipple clamps

kaklerbitmap@lemmy.world · 62 pts · 37d (7 replies)

Yall are fuckin wierd lol. I absolutely love cannabis, both recreationally and medically. But if there's an additional choice to isolate the pain relief aspect without the psychoactive effects of THC, that would be amazing as well. It's not an either/or choice - there are absolutely use cases for both. Regardless, I'm pretty skeptical that terpenes are any more useful for pain control than essential oils are.

SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca · 4 pts · 37d

This industry relies on innuendo and bots to fill comments on Reddit, anything but actual clinical trials with placebo controls. Same thing with terpene sleep aids.

dawcas@scribe.disroot.org · 0 pts · 37d (3 replies)

If I'm not wrong, essential oils are rich in terpenes and maybe that's what makes them useful as a pain treatment.

SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca · 15 pts · 37d (2 replies)

Essential oils are not useful as pain treatment.

Captain_Patchy@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 36d (1 reply)

I have friends that use them and disagree.

Schmoo@slrpnk.net · 4 pts · 36d

You have friends that have made a therapeutic ritual out of using essential oils which helps them only because the placebo effect can be very powerful for pain. Literally anything could stand in for the essential oils. Swap their oil vials out with convincing fakes and they'll never know the difference because it's the ritual of smelling and/or applying the oils that's helping them, not any real physical mechanism of the compounds in the oils interacting with their biology.

Thing is, this is the strain that's gonna be legalized if any. So any fun use would still be illegal.

The states in the US that have already legalized weed are not going to let go of that tax revenue anytime soon.

tabular@lemmy.world · -1 pts · 37d (6 replies)

lime@feddit.nu · 1 pts · 37d

the uk sticks out in the statistics of legal limits for alcohol in europe at 0.8‰ BAC; most countries are at 0.2 with some having a zero-tolerance policy, because it affects people so differently and it's hard to tell.

stylusmobilus@aussie.zone · -10 pts · 37d (4 replies)

There was an injection of tongue in cheek with the first comment as well, but that seemed to have missed most

There’s a big difference between one Panadeine forte and the opioids you might be thinking of. Sometimes it’s just a paracetamol

lime@feddit.nu · 9 pts · 37d

...paracetamol is not an opioid.

terabyterex@lemmy.world · 21 pts · 37d

i am sure this cannabis is safer than paracetamol or codeine. and there are people who want that

Washedupcynic@lemmy.ca · 16 pts · 37d (10 replies)

Codeine can still make people sleepy and sluggish. It's still an opioid that can lead to dependence and withdrawal. It still has negative GI side effects causing constipation. It's not a good idea for driving while under the influence. If this can help people in pain without side effect that can cause impairment, why not. Getting high off of cannabis can still be allowed.

TheStaffmaster@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 37d

the first time i took Hydrocodone was after I had my wisdom teeth pulled. I slept a full 8 hours, got up, took my next dose, and then proceeded to pass out for ANOTHER full 8 hours. I put two and two together pretty quickly and just decided to deal with the pain.

stylusmobilus@aussie.zone · -9 pts · 37d (8 replies)

I’m not going to argue, really

I take one if I have to drive and I’m in pain.

actionjbone@sh.itjust.works · 13 pts · 37d (3 replies)

You don't need to argue. You just need to accept that every time you do that you put your life, and the lives of the people around you, in danger. And that's simply a fact.

stylusmobilus@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 37d

Yeah look I think there might be a difference between one Panadeine forte and hard core opiates that have people nodding off.

Certainly, it’s a lot better than vaping two caps before driving and nine times out of ten it’s just a paracetamol anyway

Uranium_Green@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 37d (1 reply)

My friend, in the UK you can literally buy Panadol both with and without codiene over the counter at a pharmacy

They have said multiple times they use the without for the most part, which is just paracetamol (acetaminophen).

The UK and elsewhere don't have the same problem with opiates as the US does.

It's not an offense to drive on medications unless it impares you, in effect giving the police reason to stop you from driving if impaired by it and legal means to prosecute you if you cause harm due to the imparement.

That also means I could drive whilst high from my cannabis prescription if there was no imparement.

Jako302@feddit.org · 1 pts · 36d

It's not an offense to drive on medications unless it impares you

Its not that its no offense, you simply can't be prosecuted if no one knows about it. But that doesn't equal legal. If you get into an accident and anyone finds out that you took opioide, even just medical painkillers, you will be attributed most of the blame in court.

That also means I could drive whilst high from my cannabis prescription if there was no imparement.

A prescription only provides defense in court, not an immunity to prosecution. It still is in your responsibility to prove that you weren't impaired by your medication, which is nearly impossible. If your tolerance is high enough that your reaction time doesn't decrease, then its nearly useless either way.

velma@sh.itjust.works · 10 pts · 37d (3 replies)

But if you have cannabis without the high, you could use that instead and be safer.

I’d love to have the option as a medical marijuana user. Not as punishment for having pain, but for having more options.

stylusmobilus@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 37d (2 replies)

Yeah look, I don’t it’s a bad thing at all, I know this would benefit many people

velma@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 37d

Your parent comment resonated with me, I get that knee jerk reaction about punishing pain. But yeah I can begrudgingly admit that I would use this if it was available for driving and such.

Smaile@lemmy.ca · 1 pts · 37d

Ok thats not exactly an improvement.

homes@piefed.world · 17 pts · 37d

On one hand, it sounds like Puritanical bullshit, but on the other hand, I’d like the option.

CompactFlax@discuss.tchncs.de · 13 pts · 37d

For me cannabis is an incredibly strong depressant. I can feel suicidal for free with pain, thanks.

pomegranatefern@sh.itjust.works · 44 pts · 36d (2 replies)

What do you think happened to cocaine and heroine? Hell, alcohol some places.

Prathas@lemmy.zip · 3 pts · 36d (2 replies)

What happened to them? I really don't know the history behind these hard drugs.

KingGimpicus@sh.itjust.works · 9 pts · 36d (1 reply)

They started as medicines and were concentrated, distilled, and extracted to the point where the medicine it became was deadlier than the cure it provided.

Coca leaves are still consumed medicinally/recreationally in some parts of south america.

Poppy seeds have a whole history of being abused and weaponized through the silk road.

Marijuana has faced a similar story, though without the deaths. This hasn't stopped governments around the world from conflating the deaths caused by other things with the use of medicines that in no way cause death.

Lucius_Sweet@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 35d

I have to point out that in medicine we use the derivatives from cocaine, novacaine, lidocaine, benzocaine etc as potent short/medium term anaesthetics. Drugs like these make dental extractions for example relatively painless today. Pure cocaine was used previously but was far more toxic to the liver and had a much higher incidence of allergic reaction than its modern derivatives.

Nooo thanks. I hope this proves to be viable.

Which is why no one pays for studies about that method.

This is so stupid. Just more pointless research to make you look the wrong way. Like Cannabis is this miracle plant that could offer us things we didn't have access to before.

I love Cannabis, she has been one of my best friends for over 25 years but let's not kid ourselves. These terpenes aren't unique to Cannabis, you shouldn't be getting them from Cannabis, you should be getting them from your food.

Unfortunately the food you are sold is dead and empty. Not only are processed foods stripped of all you actually need to support a healthy body, the fruits and veggies you buy are mostly dead strains that are grown in dead soil. It's cheaper upfront, but then you have to pay for it in supplements, taxes and hospital bills.

Geraniol: Citronella, rose, lemongrass

Linalool: Lavender, mints, citrus, coriander, basil

Beta-caryophyllene: Black pepper, rosemary, cloves, hops

Alpha-humulene: Sage, hops, ginseng, ginger, mints

Terpenes are the key. Spice up your lives.

wewbull@feddit.uk · 1 pts · 36d

I'm not sure how you can objectively say the high is what gives pain relief. The two are intrinsically linked for you, and you'd be unable to know if it's one or two chemical processes happening in your body at the same time. It's just impossible to know.

naticus@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 36d (4 replies)

Yeah unfortunately I'm the same way. Have tried several CBD things and not one of them do anything for me unless I go max dose, and even then it's an incredibly mild effect. Terepenes from weed are pretty much pseudo science, and the furthest this goes is "may be beneficial"...

Chocolate is also beneficial, "beneficial" is a very low bar. It doesn't mean the stuff in them doesn't work, it means it's a very inefficient way to get that stuff. Like drinking expensive wine instead of just eating some grapes.

If you actually want to try terepenes, you do what people across the planet have done for thousands of years and make pine tea. A single pine tree provides limitless fresh ingredients year round and you can get a much higher dose with zero other stuff.

Weeds cool and all, but it's always so stupid when people talk about the expensive chemical way and not the free and natural way.

naught@sh.itjust.works · 3 pts · 37d (3 replies)

technically all weed is just weed and really the only difference is the terpenes and maybe the THC versus CBD ratio. I used to think people who said the strains were different were ignorant and just experiencing a placebo effect until I smoked regularly and understood that the effects are indeed completely different and must be influenced by terpenes or other chemicals in the plant, cuz otherwise how are they so different?

givesomefucks@lemmy.world · -1 pts · 37d (2 replies)

and maybe the THC versus CBD ratio.

Bruh, it's not just two, there's a shit ton of different kinds of both main types, and a few others.

That's why "delta 9" and the original "spice" shit started out close to real weed, they used the closest chemicals to the main ones. Then those also got outlawed and they used worse ones, to now where I'd assume it's just bathsalts and kratom.

That's the maine difference.

Unless you're smoking insane amounts of flower, like Willie Nelson levels, terepens are just flavor. And by that point you're too stoned to notice.

Circling back to other methods of terepen consumption.

This is being pushed because it can be stripped from hemp when they make delta 9 shit.

As I've said a pine tree is all the terepen a community could ever need.

naught@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 37d (1 reply)

Im saying thc and cbd likely have the most profound effect. I said there were other chemicals. Also delta 9 is regular thc no? delta 8 and delta 10 and HHC and THCa and all that are the "legal" derivatives that aren't spice.

givesomefucks@lemmy.world · 0 pts · 37d

Also delta 9 is regular thc no? delta 8 and delta 10 and HHC and THCa and all that are the “legal” derivatives that aren’t spice.

Yes...

That's what I'm saying. It's not a binary ratio. Even with the same percentage of THC or CBD, that is many different types of THC and many different types of CBD.

And then there are others, which similarly have a lot of variations.

It's only complicated if you still have simplified Mendelian view of variation. Real life ain't 6th grade science man, shits fucking complicated.

The same plant will have variation on itself, even clones have variation.

workerONE@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 37d (1 reply)

Reduces pain in mouse models?

givesomefucks@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 37d

It's a nice way of saying:

We gave mice _____ to see if we could cure them of ____!

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8621025/

Explains it more in depth:

Understanding and treating human diseases requires thorough knowledge of disease-causing molecular and pathophysiological mechanisms. Despite the recent advances in induced pluripotent stem cell techniques, many of these aspects remain challenging to study, especially under physiological conditions in patient-derived material [1,2]. In order to be reliable and valuable, the disease model should recapitulate if not the entire human disease phenotype, then at least the key features of each specific disease under study [3]. For precision medicine, a good understanding of the genetic bases of variation in phenotypes and their interaction with the environment in health and disease are required [4,5]. Thus, animal models, and especially genetically modified (GM) mice, offer great potential to serve as precious preclinical models that facilitate basic understanding of disease pathomechanisms and provide clues for the development of treatment options and novel strategies to follow a treatment’s response.

Ok, but now imagine being in chronic pain and wanting relief without getting high?

That'll be $10,000

Yes, but the thing they were bring flippant about is exactly the niche that'll be excessively monitized.

What sort of goof ball wants to take cannabis but doesn't want to get high?. You could choose from several other pain killers that already do that. Theres no need to ruin perfectly good weed.

velma@sh.itjust.works · 14 pts · 37d

Someone who uses cannabis medicinally and wants to have the pain relief without the high sometimes.

If you don’t understand the difference in pain relief from weed vs opioids you wouldn’t understand why some would appreciate weed strength pain relief without the high.

Or, and hear me out, NO.

nanlux_user@lemmy.world · 11 pts · 37d (10 replies)

Why?

Nusm@peachpie.theatl.social · 0 pts · 37d (9 replies)

Umm, because I want the high.

Filetternavn@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 17 pts · 37d (6 replies)

So people who don't want it don't deserve to have that choice? This makes no sense

Mouselemming@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 37d (5 replies)

I think they mean that, as long as it doesn't exist, they can use the kind that does both, but as soon as it does, their boss will insist they use the boring kind.

chonglibloodsport@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 37d (4 replies)

How about just taking the choice away from their boss?

TeddE@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 37d (3 replies)

some people still want to function without the pain.

Yeah, but what's your point?

A_Random_Idiot@lemmy.world · -20 pts · 36d (33 replies)

I love as this news spread, all the "but i need it for my pain/depression/etc/etc!, its the only thing that helps!" types are now just straight up basically saying they don't give a fuck about anything it does but the high.

I knew this was gonna happen.

Just like I know the type of responses I'm gonna get from the outed potheads and addicts.

partofthevoice@lemmy.zip · 24 pts · 36d (21 replies)

Potheads and addicts? Holy shit, is it still 1990 and you’ve got some weird fucking prejudice against how other people choose to spend their time or how they medicate themselves? Oh boy…

I dont care what you do in your own home.

But potheads, like vegans, cant just contain it to their own home and shut up about it. They gotta make sure everyone, everywhere, in every fucking conversation, knows about what they do.

And for the longest time, they all tried to hide behind pot being the magical medicine that cured all woes, and now we have science actually isolating beneficial components without hte high, and the overwhelming response is "NO, I DONT WANT THE BENEFICIAL EFFECTS, I WANT THE HIGH", which is exactly what addicts would say.

partofthevoice@lemmy.zip · 18 pts · 36d (4 replies)

What kind of naïve person makes grandiose claims of others, while also unfairly aggregating them to the grouping of your own subjective, unflattering, and inaccurate images of them? You’re basically inventing these people, potheads and vegan, to make a dumb point about how some people like to talk about their personal choices a lot. Whoopty doo, you dweeb.

You know what’s funny? Aside from the fact that I’m mentioning it now, I consume a grotesque volume of cannabis. Truly grotesque, I promise more than whatever you’re thinking. I don’t bring it up, though, ever. Why? Because I’m an actual human being, as opposed to whatever fantasy you’ve got going on up there.

No it’s not. Please, for the love of god, do good research and get that stuff. That’s great for children, people who don’t want to be high, and people who can’t be high (e.g., on the clock) but still need the medicine.

I still want to get high, though. There’s nothing wrong with that. The issue is with you, if you have a problem with that.

vegans AND potheads, oh man, best joke in here is yours tho

Tattorack@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 36d (5 replies)

Yeah... Maybe they like getting high too. What's the problem? The only issue I see with cannabis is that people smoke it.

mirshafie@europe.pub · 1 pts · 36d (4 replies)

There are tons of issues with cannabis. It severely diminishes your ability to solve problems or concentrate on complex tasks over a period of time. I'm not in favor of people casually being drunk every day, and therefore I am not in favor of people casually smoking weed every day.

If we want people to be able to get the medical benefits of cannabinoids, like anti-emetics, pain relief, appetite, anti-psychotics et.c. we need to research their mechanism of action and synergy between each other. People who are sick do not necessarily also want to be high, especially if you have to take your medication over an extended period of time.

Tattorack@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 36d (3 replies)

So cannabis and alcohol bad, caffeine fine?

mirshafie@europe.pub · 1 pts · 36d (2 replies)

Caffeine and nicotine are problematic for various reasons, but they are not significantly mind-altering. Because of that, chronic use of caffeine and nicotine is not problematic with regard to being able to perform most tasks.

Tattorack@lemmy.world · 0 pts · 35d (1 reply)

but they are not significantly mind-altering.

Timonesaysno@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 36d (1 reply)

Used one without the high. Worked beautifully. Too expensive in the long run. But really appreciated it. Dont want the high at all. It had no side effects. Just gentle pain relief. Bliss.

cambridgeport90@techhub.social · 3 pts · 36d

@Timonesaysno I love the high from cannabis, but that doesn’t mean that I want it necessarily in all situations. Like for instance, on Friday night I randomly got nauseous, and the only thing I had was my THC vape. Well, I didn’t care, because we were having fun anyway, I may not have been able to get away with that is easily outside of a chill situation, such as a softball game, which is where I was last night.

Meatwagon@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 1 pts · 36d (1 reply)

If I'm in chronic pain then I'm going to want to be high too. Nothing wrong with being high in your own house.

-I don't even like weed. The high just feels like taking benedryl to me.

velma@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 36d

It would be better to have both as an option.
