Even better if the aliens have no concept of a serial killer so they have no frame of reference for the horror they have brought upon themselves.

kopasz7@sh.itjust.works · 104 pts · 32d (5 replies)

They conclude it is normal human behavior and decide to leave us the fuck alone, like we do with the sentinel islands.

No, they threaten to kill all of us unless we change. Then we are given 6 months to find and kill every serial killer on the planet and they give us the technology to instantly detect serial killers but it turns out the device detects potential serial killers as well and it's flagging multiple politicians, celebrities, nobel laureates and even children.

samus12345@sh.itjust.works · 75 pts · 32d (26 replies)

A serial killer wouldn't necessarily do well in this situation. They tend to get off on being sneaky and killing people with no way to defend themselves. A combat vet is probably their worst possible choice, which is why it's a popular trope.

WappleFF27@feddit.online · 54 pts · 32d (8 replies)

Hannibal lecter and true crime make serial killers look like supervillains but really they're just Steven Miller if he was broke.

Seriously Dahmer had a victim RETURNED TO HIM BY THE POLICE. Not a mastermind, a higher intelligence wouldn’t be subverted.

NotASharkInAManSuit@lemmy.world · 45 pts · 32d (5 replies)

Not only that, there were a bunch of his neighbors telling the police that he was killing people and that his apartment smelled like the literal pile of rotting corpses that it actually was, and the police response was, “You’re black/gay, we don’t care.”

Dahmer was a psychotic, tactless, idiot fucking dumbass that genuinely did not seem to be even trying to hide his actions, and the police were still too fucking stupid, lazy, and bigoted to even notice.

MBech@feddit.dk · 11 pts · 32d (3 replies)

The cops knew what Dahmer was doing, they just didn't give a shit. He killed a bunch of people the cops wanted to kill themselves.

There was one fan fiction where the A-Team was abducted by aliens. Let's say they promptly broke out of confinement, locked themselves in a room with a bunch of alien goodies and went underground in a nebula. That was a fun one.

CADmonkey@lemmy.world · 12 pts · 32d (6 replies)

Instead of a serial killer, maybe an obsessive weirdo who can figure out how anything works (and how they can be made to not work) and really, really wants to go home.

LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 49 pts · 32d (4 replies)

If aliens were to abduct someone I'd think they would want someone who's alone and out of sight of most people. So it's probably going to be someone farther from the cities, and just walking by themself. So they might abduct someone out hunting, or they might abduct a someone hopped up on meth wandering through back roads or swamp areas of Polk County, Florida.

Either way, they probably got more than they bargained for.

Jesus_666@lemmy.world · 45 pts · 32d (1 reply)

Heck, have the aliens try to abduct some wildlife and then it turns out they picked up the cocaine bear. Play it as an action comedy from the perspective of the aliens.

Bonus points if they then abduct a human hunter to deal with it and he turns out to be the deranged serial killer from the post.

Jurassic Park, but a future civilization of tiny beings tries to bring back various species of the Cenezoic Era, especially humans, among a few planets in a backwater star system . Chaos ensues. They lose control, evacuate, and slag the planets from orbit on the way out. Unbeknownst to them, a corrupt employee loses a vial of prokaryotes while trying to smuggle it out to a rival faction. It's smashed and washed into the sea in the process. The employee gets eaten by a frilled lizard. Billions of years later, that region of the galaxy is still quarantined. The descendants of the surviving prokaryotes look up at the stars hungrily from the surface of a tiny blue dot.

Do psychopaths actually do this? I thought the whole point was that they didn't care about other people, so would have no particular interest in hiding?

ricecake@sh.itjust.works · 10 pts · 31d

Not quite. There's a range of antisocial personality disorders. The common characteristic is lacking empathy. For the most part, the interest in hiding is more a byproduct of self preservation, getting what you want, and upbringing.

Just because you don't care about something doesn't mean you don't do things you were taught , you just do them because that's how things are done, not because you've internalized the reason behind it. I hold the door for the person behind me because being kind to strangers is good, and I'd feel bad if I made someone have a worse day. A sociopath might do it because they were told that that's what you do.

Put differently: they view people as akin to objects. I will openly admit to having objectified my toaster. I don't care what it thinks of me, and when it stops toasting I'll only keep it long enough to reference the model number and get a new one. (Not being a sociopath, I've now considered the feelings of my toaster and feel a tinge of irrational guilt about writing that about my loyal toaster).
Abusing the toaster wouldn't give me intrinsic joy. It would cause my family to look at me oddly and I'd have to answer all sorts of questions. Also I couldn't make bagels. Treating an inert object well helps me avoid an uncomfortable situation, and is more useful to me. Once treating it poorly had more value though, I won't really hesitate.

That's why they often find themselves in jobs where treating people like objects is helpful. Other people balk at ruthlessly firing people right before the holidays, or telling a child with cancer that their treatment is more expensive than the premiums they'll bring in, even accounting for the lawsuit for wrongful claim rejection, and so they need to die. Sociopath just sees the benefit to themselves of making their quarterly numbers look good.

This could be done by fans overdubbing the movie Doom (2005). Add translation captions to all the monsters where they are friendly and confused but the sounds come out as Doom monsters.

Long as we’re listing horror movie ideas, here’s mine:

Sanewashing
Minor parody of modern politics. Begins as a creepy mysterious slasher movie about a man in a completely ridiculous clown costume slashing people up with little warning. A common theme is that no victims react as they should - frequently assuming they are amid a camera prank, or simply experiencing “sensory overload”.

While the movie follows one hero that is aghast and wants to explain the killings, other reactions are surprisingly mute - focused on mourning the deaths, not fearing any killer; and accepting the idea of a slasher in a clown costume as a stress induced hallucination.

Eventually, the hero is captured and the killer decides to give away the secret in a villain monologue: He’s just a serial killer who wanted to kill, but a random impulse made him decide on the clown costume - and it basically makes his existence stealthy, as though no one can acknowledge his very existence even when he barges in the front door.

SharkAttak@kbin.melroy.org · 4 pts · 32d (1 reply)

And the 'body horror scene' isn't the baby alien coming out of the dudes' chest, is the baby coming out of the mommy's womb.

musubibreakfast@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 32d

It's a woman breastfeeding in a public area and the aliens attack her with a flamethrower. They miss and the baby pukes breast milk over the aliens and it burns through their skin like acid.

zarathustrad@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 32d

The "free world" referred to western democratic countries post WW2. The US president was the leader of the free world in as much as the US was considered the largest economic, military, and political power of that time. That position has been diminishing over the last 25 years (or more, depending on what you blame it on).
