On May 16, 2011, Sony announced that two PlayStation 3 games and two PSP games would be offered for free from lists of five and four,† respectively.[75][76] The games available varied by region[75][76] and were only available in countries which had access to the PlayStation Store prior to the outage.[76]
Yeah, I had an Xbox for one game (Midtown Madness 3), and played through the trial for live, but never subscribed. I'm not sure if I paid for a month of psn+ during the gta5 launch, but if I did that would have been the only time I've put money to play multi-player. Didn't take the bait for Games for Windows Live garbage either. It would take until the pc release of Halo 3/ODST/Reach/4 for me to play them, even though I badly wanted to play in their prime. Principles and all that. And I was pissed that MS shelved their windows gaming division to milk the Xbox.
That's exactly what it is. Unfortunately, a TON of people are in boats like this everywhere. Encourage them to seek help, is what I think would be the best course of action for literally everybody in the entire world.
Why bad? Both husband and wife have something to laugh about. This is one of them and it happens subconsciously. It is worse, when you can't acknowledge it and take offense at such "life situations"
Have... Have y'all considered not marrying partners that you don't share interests with? Like, I know I'm an edge case in that I'm 35, gay, and have never had a live in partner, but it's really not that scary being single until you find someone you actually enjoy being with. Either it'll happen or it won't, but I'd rather be single and able to enjoy my hobbies and passions than be with someone who shares none of them.
I mean, unless you wanna be unhygienic about it, the amount of preparation involved and gadgets/accessories available to make it easier certainly lands it in hobbyist friendly territory
Eh just playing video games isn’t much of a hobby. Most gamers veg like tv watches. I wouldn’t say sitting in front of the tv all day is a hobby. Really low bar for hobbies if so.
Oh no. I lost what i thought was my main hobby. /s
I think gaming is way more engaging than just watching something where you don't do a thing but watch. There are many games where you actually have to use your brain, maybe make different choices or immerse yourself in a character. Whatever you are into.
Of course there is brain-dead stuff too which can be awesome as well at times.
Sometimes you just don't discover everything out about that person even years after being with them. This is especially true when you meet at younger ages. Also everyone changes the older you get. The person you marry can absolutely change over a decade as everything becomes a never ending routine and you each find things you can no longer tolerate as much as you used to when you dated and tried harder (for some reason) to be like the other person. Knowing this now I wish it was mandatory for everyone to wait 5 years before getting engaged and 2 of those years has to be living together. Even then you never know who they will be 10 years from now. The worst part about getting older is wishing you knew all of what you know now but 20-30 years ago so you could have actually applied it when it mattered.
This is the way, I game with my wife nearly everyday.
Sometimes when we come back from an obligation (visit parents, friends, shopping etc) we stay up later than we should and get a couple rounds of ARAM or whatever crafter builder we’re playing before we sleep because the day feels wasted if we didn’t get a bit of playtime together.
I’ve dated people who weren’t gamers and it is so pointlessly painful to regret doing one of the things that brings you the most joy in life.
My SO and I don't share interests that much, but we share values and are similar/compatible in so much regards. When we start talking it is hard to stop. We have been living together for 20 years.
I don't think having shared interests is as necessary as you seem to suggest.
Society told us straight guys that you have to get married and they told straight women they need a husband to have kids so the business transactions happened.
I can see how it would be very annoying to genuienly be trying to sleep, and someone is playing video games in the very same room.
Maybe move the console to the living room, use a headset?
If he's got too much energy to sleep, and she wants sleep now... this seems mutually agreeable?
Maybe I'm an odd duck, but what's always made sense to me, as a very light sleeper, is that a couple would each have their own beds, where they could sleep in the same bed when feeling more cuddly, or seperately when truly exhausted.
I suspect that if we ever do start building housing in a way that makes any actual attempt at being affordable, it'll be floors of studios with small bathrooms, maybe mininfridges, but communal kitches and washing machines on each floor.
Basically, college dorms, for everyone, forever, lol.
Can you turn off the stupid BEEP BEEP BEEP so that it doesn't yell at you for unplugging it when the actual problem is that it just wasn't in the mood to run anymore?
yeah but then he cant whine about like people requiring sleep at night like it is some sort of insult and pretend hes a victim to her rudeness for not slogging his dong.
we cant be having respect and consideration in these adult relationships!
I respect that you're the only person to actually dig deeper into my remark. I think it's both and neither of those at the same time.
Love and appreciation cannot coexist with squalor, misery and poverty that is present in today's common marital home. A wife (or husband) would be more receptive if we all didn't had to work vast amounts of overtime to live in our tiny houses.
I broadly agree with that, but phrasing it as you originally did... leaves open the potential of many interpretations, and is thus... well in this context, inherently inflammatory.
Such as the interpretation of basically 'all women want only money or expensive things/experiences'.
I would say that love can exist amidst squalor, but certainly the poverty makes it much, much more rare and difficult achieve or maintain.
I'm not going to tell you gold diggers do not exist, or that many women are not broadly financially illiterate, irresponsible, or that many women are not vain.
But many of them are none of those things, many men are.
Qualified statements are probably a better plan with uh, high conflict topics.
depression can very much make you become bored by things you used to like, its called anhedonia and it doesnt always go away even after some pretty intensive treatments, or even if the depression itself is managed.
I've separated them purposefully because I think there's an important semantic distinction. The boredom you describe is driven by disinterest due to neurochemical dysfunction.
That's distinct from boredom as a state of mind which assumes or asserts that curiosity, entertainment, etc, are presented and consumed. There is not necessarily a chemical imbalance imposing this state on the mind.
If you like, you could reword the sentiment as; only boring people are bored (and those with depression are not necessarily boring).
I've considered that phrasing previously but found it diminishes the concept.
My wife hates that she "always has to pick the restaurant," when we go out. I cant make her realize she shot down my first 3 suggestions before asking what she wanted. Yes you pick because everything i suggest you dont want tonight and ill eat everything.
I listened to the "I don't care just get whatever" response once. So, I did. It uh, didn't well as I knew it wouldn't. I wasn't being a dick about it either, just got what I know she'd want from a restaurant we frequent... She wasn't happy about it because I didn't read her mind and know that she didn't want that kind of food at that moment... Sometimes there's no winning.
She can't figure out what she wants and wants you to solve it, exactly. She has to pick because she wants to want the answers you give but she doesn't. What's it like for you to have to go through this repeatedly, does she know or care?
Ive gotten over itnas best i can. The worst is when i cook something, and she decides thats not what she wants, so she cooks something else for herself.
But she also gets upset that she does most of the cooking. Like yeah no shit. I dont need praise from you for everything i do, but less negative reinforcement would go a long way.
Therapy is helping though. I can hear it in the way she talks to our kids about life and how to treat others. So the realization is coming through
Sounds like the world isn't meeting her needs and she's bitter she has to meet her own. Sounds rough man, I feel for ya. So many men deal with wives and girlfriends like this.
Relative to what? Why does men sharing difficulties mean those are the only ones? You sound like a wife trying to gaslight her husband about how good he actually has it while she abuses him...
More patient than me. I just got the divorce and now my ex and I are both happier.
Man I remember telling her one day when she came downstairs and I was feeding our newly diabetic son pancakes with syrup for breakfast and hearing "what are you doing? His blood sugar will go high?". I stopped told her we would give him more insulin and then gave up and told here it was why I asked for a divorce. At no point was there a good morning. It was right into what I was doing and how it was wrong. God forbid we parent different.
Long story short I've put a lot of work in with the kids and they have every other week with me and I am doing my best to correct the issues created from our 10 years of marriage. Is she aware? I don't think so. Even when she has the kids they still come to my house and I still have them for sleepovers. They don't do the same with her.
No shit they don’t do the same with her. You give them freedoms she doesn’t and she has to be the parent. Any kid will go to the less responsible parent for being more “fun”.
The example you gave, we will presume it’s the worst of your complaints, And it’s such a non complaint it seems ridiculous you’d use it as an example. You gave your diabetic child pure sugar and you’re blaming your ex for giving a shit about that?! You can’t be real. You can’t seriously think doing shit like that then expecting a constant smiling happy wife to come thank you for doing it! Go get yourself a trad wife who doesn’t work if you want to weirdly abuse your kids or grow the fuck up before you trick another woman into dealing with a man baby.
played videogames for years without a problem, had a PS4 for a year and I swear that little beep gets mapped as a pavlovian reaction for being pissed the fuck off. Started more fights than being hungry.
Not on PS4, but PS5 is much louder. They programmed the PS5 so that the startup sounds and music must be played through the TV, even if headphones are plugged in and settings are set to push all audio throigh headphones
Sit on the porch with you, have a drink and talk, go for a walk, sleep, whatever.
Why not just ask? Or:
I'm gonna watch Hot Fuzz, do you want to?
OMG you are so hot I want you right now.
Not that it's someone's responsibility to know how to ask things, but I think it does help to you know, know your partner. Someone asking "sexy time?" wouldn't make me want sex, and I might want to watch a movie if I know which one.
Even better - "I'm gonna play Genshin, unless you wanna watch a movie, is there anything you want to watch? "
Like, there are probably a thousand better ways to approach this. Maybe it's in the delivery not the suggestions.
Guess I'm lucky, my gf and I look at each other and just ask "wanna touch?" And 9/10 times touchy time commences. Literally zero bullshit nuance or mind reading. We have great communication and neither of us dance around what we want. Best relationship I've had.
We love sex and do it everyday, and generally do compromise up (if either of us want to we do) but I so love me some nuance, too. Often, approach does matter and it's nice. "wanna fuck" because I am bored is less likely to land than if I approach my husband physically, I know this. He knows me too, and how to get me started.
Again - I don't think it's necessarily a requirement, just good to know how to ask, and to be aware of how your partner is feeling at the moment. Likely better results if you care to.
I have had this exact meme happens to me just yesterday.
Sexy time no, movie no. She went to bed and i turned on pc and she was looking at me exactly like this.
In her defense, she was looking at me like that because I wouldn't have good sleep if I play more than 30-40 mins, and she would be worried I wouldn't log off in time and won't be able to sleep herself till I log off.
That's what "nope" means? I thought it just meant "nope."
I figure something like "No I just want to cuddle with you and have a nice chat" would be a more descriptive way to say "nope," maybe we should look into that.
If "she wants to talk to me" then she should use more than one word.
Neurotypicals communicate the "i just want to cuddle" bit through body language and tone. Of course, being neurodivergent, we dont see that. Then they get mad because they cant read our minds, thought they were being clear (because it was to people like them) and assume we're blowing them off
That's not being neurotypical. That's just having poor communication skills.
Based on the actual women in my life, "blame partner for own communication failures" is the divergence rather than the norm. Regardless of what shallow media portrays.
That's not being neurotypical. That's just having poor communication skills.
I won't even bother replying to him, that's what I'd have said, thank you.
Based on the actual women in my life, "blame partner for own communication failures" is the divergence rather than the norm.
YMMV. In mine it's about a 50/50 split, probably edging on the "blame others" side. I do also know guys that expect you to read their minds too though, mostly middle managers, and plenty men and women who can't take responsibility for any of their faults/actions (which is in essence the same issue, just broadened), it's not really a gendered issue, it seems like there's a general accountability problem these days.
ok so shes trying to sleep probably from a hard day work and here youre running all over the house turning on all the things and crawling up walls? what are you a cat?
the fuck is with lemmy quality lately? sounds like a bunch of abusers airing out their dirty laundry in an AA meeting.

No, users were offered 2 (I think?) free games as compensation for the PS3 data breach.

BeUnique@lemmy.zip · 9 pts · 26d
I listened to the "I don't care just get whatever" response once. So, I did. It uh, didn't well as I knew it wouldn't. I wasn't being a dick about it either, just got what I know she'd want from a restaurant we frequent... She wasn't happy about it because I didn't read her mind and know that she didn't want that kind of food at that moment... Sometimes there's no winning.
minorkeys@sh.itjust.works · -2 pts · 27d
She can't figure out what she wants and wants you to solve it, exactly. She has to pick because she wants to want the answers you give but she doesn't. What's it like for you to have to go through this repeatedly, does she know or care?
Sc00ter@lemmy.zip · 13 pts · 27d
Ive gotten over itnas best i can. The worst is when i cook something, and she decides thats not what she wants, so she cooks something else for herself.
But she also gets upset that she does most of the cooking. Like yeah no shit. I dont need praise from you for everything i do, but less negative reinforcement would go a long way.
Therapy is helping though. I can hear it in the way she talks to our kids about life and how to treat others. So the realization is coming through

whoisearth@lemmy.ca · -2 pts · 27d
In a way I feel sad for her.
architect@thelemmy.club · 4 pts · 26d

Sexy time? No thanks
Movie? No thanks
What do you want to do?
BrickEater@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 25d
Guess I'm lucky, my gf and I look at each other and just ask "wanna touch?" And 9/10 times touchy time commences. Literally zero bullshit nuance or mind reading. We have great communication and neither of us dance around what we want. Best relationship I've had.
RBWells@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 25d
We love sex and do it everyday, and generally do compromise up (if either of us want to we do) but I so love me some nuance, too. Often, approach does matter and it's nice. "wanna fuck" because I am bored is less likely to land than if I approach my husband physically, I know this. He knows me too, and how to get me started.
Again - I don't think it's necessarily a requirement, just good to know how to ask, and to be aware of how your partner is feeling at the moment. Likely better results if you care to.
faintwhenfree@lemmus.org · 4 pts · 26d
I have had this exact meme happens to me just yesterday.
Sexy time no, movie no. She went to bed and i turned on pc and she was looking at me exactly like this.
In her defense, she was looking at me like that because I wouldn't have good sleep if I play more than 30-40 mins, and she would be worried I wouldn't log off in time and won't be able to sleep herself till I log off.

ArcaneSlime@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 17 pts · 26d
That's what "nope" means? I thought it just meant "nope."
I figure something like "No I just want to cuddle with you and have a nice chat" would be a more descriptive way to say "nope," maybe we should look into that.
If "she wants to talk to me" then she should use more than one word.
IzzyJ@lemmy.world · 0 pts · 26d
Neurotypicals communicate the "i just want to cuddle" bit through body language and tone. Of course, being neurodivergent, we dont see that. Then they get mad because they cant read our minds, thought they were being clear (because it was to people like them) and assume we're blowing them off
What we have here is a failure to communicate
DomeGuy@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 26d
That's not being neurotypical. That's just having poor communication skills.
Based on the actual women in my life, "blame partner for own communication failures" is the divergence rather than the norm. Regardless of what shallow media portrays.
ArcaneSlime@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 2 pts · 26d
I won't even bother replying to him, that's what I'd have said, thank you.
