He named Debian after his then-girlfriend (later wife) Debra Lynn Roundy, and himself.[4] They later married, had three children, and divorced in January 2008.[5]
Although obviously, straight people can make things for lesbians/lesbians can use things made by straight people (and they often do!)
EDIT : I missed the obvious joke : Debian > ebian > (L)e(s)bian(s)
For some reason this made me think of spaghetti, which is straight until it gets hot and wet, and actually, SpaghettiOS would not be a bad name for a distro. Except for trademark issues etc, but still.
They are ironed, sure, but also, they are an actual "Straight fit", seemingly with pleats(unless I am underestimating the wearer's waist size). A trend that is hard to find ready-made nowadays. Even the pleated ones sometimes end up being tight on the thighs.
I have the opposite reaction when I see these memes. To me it's a reminder of how inclusive some of my favorite nerdy communities are, on top of being a fun little in-joke like any meme should be. And I'm an old beardy middle aged dad too for whatever that's worth.
However, that doesn't mean the image itself is innocent or appropriate for most audiences. I'm not going to be asking the family's opinion on this one, lol. But I don't see it as a manga fetish thing at all. More empowerment than exploitation for the owners of the legs shown.
I had the same thought and am fairly confused by the outrage.
Isn’t the whole joke that as soon as we sit down to nerd out on Linux that we put on our frilly socks? There’s even the whole unixsocks comm dedicated to it. And it always felt good in a throwback to the 90s ‘outcast geek’ community without all the cis dude-by-default baggage bit of in-joking. Welcoming all our brothers and sisters by highlighting just how much they are part of our community.

To catch you up, transwomen Unix users have taken to posting pictures of their customised desktops while wearing stockings. I'm assuming it's part of their gender affirmation or a desire to share both interests at once.
This meme implies there are standard pairings of oses and stocking types.
No problem, we're all juss messing around and having a good time mostly. The image shows that wearing high raise stockings was the ordinary thing for men back in the day.
The meme is offering you classy stockings to wear according to your distro choice. Look again - are you happy with the color? Would they complement or contrast your body stylishly? Have fun :)

The letter thorn was used in Old English very early on, as was ð, which was called eth. Unlike eth, thorn remained in common use through most of the Middle English period. Both letters were used for the phoneme /θ/, sometimes by the same scribe.
Although I don't downvote their comments, I'd rather, they put the effort to use those separate characters for the 2 voices.
Otherwise, I don't really feel it to be a better option than 'th'.
And even though I know they are not looking for a "better option", I feel like this is something I can't get behind unless it is and that doesn't really make me happy to think of it.
RFC 98 was co-created and championed mostly by a person who has a history of within-organization agitation, first within Google, and now within Nix. They have a history of social activism and labor organization, and as far as I can tell, they are employed or contracted in various capacities that allow them to pursue these goals. By any reading, they are extremely polite and accommodating in the absolutely mind-endingly long RFC 98 doom-shedding.
I'm very confused about where those is going. the way it was prefaced made it seem like they were about to blame said co-creator from a right-wing perspective, but then the end of the paragraph affirmed their cordial collaboration and politeness.

I updated my Cachy install last night and some packages needed to compile... It wouldn't end, I wanted to go to bed. It just kept compiling. Which tells me I will never try Gentoo
I was using Gentoo over two decades ago, compiling on an Athlon XP (not sure which model). Single core, well less than 2GHz.
If it was manageable back then, surely it's no big deal by now with a modern multi-core CPU -- even a low-end one, let alone something like a $300 16-core Ryzen 5950X.
There needs to be some subset/common theme for the Universal Blue distro family: Aurora, Bazzite, and Bluefin. I am not aesthetically talented enough to come up with such a collection.

Arch should be bare legs (and feet 🥵)
Gentoo should be something that looks self made.

Most have both as an option now, I didn't get along with bluefin in the end, not a fan of the homebrew sandboxing and whatnot

When do I get my Arch socks? Also, I should try Nix based off this image (which is a trustworthy source of course).
PoliteDudeInTheMood@lemmy.ca · 2 pts · 269d
I updated my Cachy install last night and some packages needed to compile... It wouldn't end, I wanted to go to bed. It just kept compiling. Which tells me I will never try Gentoo

I was using Gentoo over two decades ago, compiling on an Athlon XP (not sure which model). Single core, well less than 2GHz.
If it was manageable back then, surely it's no big deal by now with a modern multi-core CPU -- even a low-end one, let alone something like a $300 16-core Ryzen 5950X.

I mean based solely on the picture I would choose Debian. I would change to Arch for my horny outfit.
Speaking of which, can we decide on canon skirts/dresses for these? 😂

There needs to be some subset/common theme for the Universal Blue distro family: Aurora, Bazzite, and Bluefin. I am not aesthetically talented enough to come up with such a collection.
