Money can absolutely buy happiness, but you have to be capable of feeling it. A trillion bucks would let anyone do amazing things that could make you incredibly happy.
However, the process of getting a trillion dollars requires that you're an evil psychopath incapable of experiencing pleasure.
I think about this all the time. If he just built electrified trains everywhere in the world and ended world hunger, I wouldn't even bat an eye if he also wanted to start a weird sex cult (with consenting adults). Chute dude, i'd probably sign up to incubate one of his sons.
Tbf if he just built electrified trains everywhere in the world, he'd run out of money before finishing a single continent.
Think about it: He doesn't have a trillion dollars (or even a few hundred billions) in liquid cash. It's all in the perceived value of Tesla, which is about 30x overvalued (price/earnings being around 300, 10 is considered a normal healthy value). The more electrified trains everywhere, the fewer cars needed.
Dude could be universally loved and become a living saint if he spent his money for good. Instead he'll just be remembered as just another greedy pathetic rich asshole.
He cant solve world hunger, money isnt the problem, and liquidating the stocks to do that would wipe out the value of what his stocks are worth leaving not enough money anyway.
Its an incredibly complex problem.
He could likely do something about it in specific isolated western countries though.
Yeah I agree, if I was a billionaire I’d be spending a lot of money on things that don’t just benefit myself, and I’d hope that’d make me happy at least a little bit. I think the not having happiness part comes from the hoarding part of it.
Exactly. I believe that becoming a billionaire is necessarily a symptom of some kind of mental illness because of what it takes to do so. Most people would be unwilling to do it.
You’re probably right. I do wonder though if you could become a billionaire and outweigh the harm you have to do to become one once you achieve that marker but it’s certainly a tough question. Especially with no guarantee you’ll even make it to that height then you could become essentially evil for nothing. Plus who’s to say you don’t lose yourself in the process. The difference between a multimillionaire and a billionaire is certainly quite vast.
There have been studies done that suggested money can buy happiness but only to a certain extent. I think the cap was somewhere north of the upper middle class. Enough money where you didn't ever really have to worry about bills or ever going broke, while also being able to travel and vacation several times a year.
Past that point increasing the amount of money didn't increase the overall happiness of the person.
I can see that but, I'd rather have my brain destroyed by money than poverty. The constant hunt for your next meal or just a roof over your head. The constant anxiety for any kind of security at all.
Never forget that Elon is such a colossal looser, that even Epstein, the most despicable piece of shit on earth, wanted absolutely nothing to do with him.
This is the type of special that Elon brings to the world.

Again, the lies are on the same level, not the policies.
This photo shows the exact opposite: A heartfelt congratulations post from a mother, a wonderful cake. Note how they decided to lie about this, even though they could easily have talked about the family relation that is NOT intact, his daughter. But no, they don't want to talk about his daughter and how he treats her. They want to smear the mother-son relationship with lies.
And I would also point out that criminals who have not yet been convicted by a court (and never may be in this case, different problem) have the same right to a great birthday party with loving family as everybody else.
One time Elon posted about how he can't be out of touch because his grandmother was poor, and his "mom" immediately replied and agreed with him, but it sounded like she was confusing his dad's mom with her own mom, so everybody assumes Elon was posting as her and fucked it up.
Don't ever feel bad for a Nazi. It's ok. You're a human and want to think that there is some good or humanity in everyone. It's natural. This is the exact thing that he and Nazis lack though. Don't feel bad.
No. Do feel bad for them, but do not let that affect your actions against them; let it pass over like a wave. Keeping our humanity intact is important, even if it hurts.
Getting angry is only one possible response, people are different, and there is nothing wrong with it. But I agree, we should still punch nazis. But also, it does not have to feel good. No one should force themselves, to become something, they are not.
When met with the crimes of empire, Gaza, Iran, Cuba, and countless more. When met with the crimes of power and wealth, Epstein, Musk, Trump, and countless more. Those that abhorre these acts and those that enact them must make sure that their hate is pure. It is a flaw of the compassionate to extend that same compassion to those that are responsible for the crimes they claim to detest.
It's entirely reasonable to criticize "how people feel". Because their feelings do not remain only their heads. They interact with the world through those feelings. And if their hatred and anger is not pure, if it has doubt, they will advocate to prevent justice.
People can "feel" how ever they want. But when those feelings bring them to telling others to "not punch a Nazi" (symbolically here), in that moment, they are just defending a Nazi from the consequences of their actions and denying justice to victims.

I agree with this fully, though. But nobody here has said not to punch nazis, just told they feel bad about it (figuratively).
My pont is: if you are a soldier on a war front, you do not have to hate the enemy, or their leader, or anyone, to shoot them. You just have to know they will kill you, your family, and destroy your culture, if you do not. Telling people they should feel only pure hatred towards monstrous people seems reasonable, since you are correct they do not share the compassion nor deserve it - but it is not a requirement for fighting against evil. If you cannot hold a steady hand, even knowing faltering will kill your loved ones, kids in gaza, countless other victims or cause some other horrendous thing, you have to find the resolve in you, to do it anyway. But that resolve does not require hatred, it can be even just the love for someone else. If you punch a nazi, the emotion driving your resolve does not matter. What matters is doing it, even if you feel that empathy, because you believe what you are defending, is worth it.
I live in a so-called progressive blue state that has a lot of Democrats. I see more and more of them driving new Teslas around. To me, all Tesla owners—especially those who purchased their vehicle in the last couple years—are just authoritarian Trump supporters. Prove me wrong.
I live in the south and just spent a week in the PNW. While the lack of lifted trucks was nice, there wereso many damn Cybertucks and model Ys. I rarely see a CT here but they were everywhere out there. It was wild. Beautiful place though.
He is only 55! Thats a rough 55 for having all the money in the world. I don't mean go get plastic surgery, but you would think he would be able to take better care of himself. Man, imagine what he would look like if he was never rich? For starters no hair.
I love watching the anti aging grift the billionaires spend their money on. You can't fight age but you can age healithily. That requires a healthy diet, exercise and stretching which is the one thing they won't try.
The present muskrat is the "good looking, money muskrat". Without the money he would look like a goblin, as his skinsuit tries to match his soul. "Taking better care of himself" could have only been fixing that soul of his.
I know other billionaires are super duper evil too, with fettid insides. I'm saying that's just how much worse his is. The things he wants to do to humanity are top tier, once-every-few-generation horrors. They are so bad, other rich people, thiel not included, just can't keep up.
Well yeah, there’s only so much you can do to fix mental and personality issues. The things wrong with Elon cannot be fixed by money alone.
For us normal folks though? You just TRY to be unhappy while getting your dick sucked by a supermodel in your million dollar Ferrari parked in front of your mansion the size of a French palace. Physically impossible.
I disagree - I could easily be unhappy in that scenario and I think I'm pretty normal*. I get that normal is subjective, but I'm not like on medication, or in treatment for anything.
I think I would immediately be really insecure about having to buy sex and how the only reason people love me is my money and I'm incapable of intimacy from a genuine place. I think I would immediately feel shame at having purchased a Ferrari while not knowing anything about cars. I think I would feel guilty having a big house to live in all by myself, and probably would never buy it to begin with.
That isn't to say I couldn't make myself happy with money -I could give a fuckton of it away to worthy causes and basically feel good about myself immediately despite not really working very hard or personally accomplishing much. That feels like a cheat code to me. "Yeah, I didn't lose twenty pounds this year like I wanted or write my novel despite having tons of free time, but I gave away a Billion Dollars to cancer research and another Billion to RAICES and another Billion to the ACLU and another Billion to the Trevor Project. So basically, I'm fucking awesome." But even then, I think over like a decade or similar, the lack of personal involvement would eventually make me embarrassed.
I think that's why hiring sycophants (or now building them from AI) is such a popular remedy for the obscenely wealthy. A chorus of voices to drown out your own insecurity about how you didn't earn it, didn't use to better yourself, didn't find real happiness. And why reality checks drive these people nuts.
elon musk must be too Pedo-helialy or wierd to be one with the "normies". he would be like the ones that walmart and amazon wont hire as employees, and they hire anybody.
I am mentally retarded and I can tell when I see a fellow retard. He is definitely mentally retarded, but I think a bit more than me, I thank Allah for that.
Fire retardant don't stop fires, they retard it, meaning slows it, so in warehouses you have ceiling with fire retardant which slows the spread of fire but doesn't stop it.
A cool tidbit, until recently, I used to think I am intellectually disabled, but I am not, I am just have mental retardation. So I am intelligent and smart just have a slow processing speed
If you've ever called someone an idiot or moron, that's just as wrong (arguably more wrong) as calling someone a retard. Look up the "euphemism treadmill".
All of these terms were used to describe the same people and fell out of favor when people started using them as pejorative terms.

Just think about how much happiness you'd get from:
Completely solving world hunger, single-handedly.
Massive vaccine roll-outs to eradicate or nearly eradicate some of the worst diseases.
Giving every single homeless person in the US a free house to live in.
So much hookers and blow.
And after all that, you'd still be a billionaire. Just getting started.

Money doesn't buy happiness, but it's comfier to cry in a Mercedes than a Lada
Englishgrinn@lemmy.ca · 4 pts · 17d

JoeBigelow@lemmy.ca · 2 pts · 19d
Why is removed censored but retard isn't? What about fire retardant? It makes the fire removed, by retardation.
mountainRadish@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 19d
What do you mean by "removed being censored?
Remove is not a bad word!?
I don't get your comment.
Dookieman12@piefed.social · 1 pts · 18d
If you've ever called someone an idiot or moron, that's just as wrong (arguably more wrong) as calling someone a retard. Look up the "euphemism treadmill".
All of these terms were used to describe the same people and fell out of favor when people started using them as pejorative terms.
