I’m getting pretty fucking sick of seeing this ‘no one should be killed for their political beliefs’ take going around.
He wasn’t killed for his beliefs. He was killed because he dedicated his life to terrorizing everyone who isn’t a conservative white man, and was materially supporting state violence in the pursuit of white supremacy.
That is 100% something we have firmly established that people should be shot for, in multiple wars throughout the last few centuries.
Holy shit, I'm in the middle of buttfuck nowhere with no internet for days, and THIS is the news that comes through when I reconnect?! Perhaps I treated this timeline too harshly
Don't worry. This is the casus belli that the Guardians Of Pedophiles have been trying to force for months. As much as I love California, I think it's time to head back to BC. Things are about to get much worse in the US.
My advice to anyone else that isn't prepared to fight for survival is to find a way out now. You don't have long.
"The shooter visited California once, where they were radicalized by the violent left."
"The shooter owned an iPhone, which is designed by Apple in California. The violent leftists are responsible."
"Liberals, who constantly demonize conservative speech, are responsible!"
There need not be any actual ties to Los Angeles, Chicago, or DC. They can cut any narrative they like from whole cloth. Denying reality and substituting their own is the rightist way.
For a lot of us we can't simply leave. And if we can, it could still take years for visas. If we are lucky it will be short, but I'm not too optimistic.
I feel bad that his children had to witness that, and even if they hadn't been there (which they were) they'd undoubtedly have the video clip shoved in their faces eventually. That's a hell of a way to lose a parent.
The fact that he died while in the middle of talking about trans mass shooters being a huge problem certainly makes it feel like cosmic karma at work. I struggle to give a shit about the man himself being shot dead. But I do worry about political violence... it's a very rare occasion when murdering someone sitting in a chair talking is a good idea. Not a single person in his right-wing sphere of repugnance is going to do any self-reflection and change their ways, they'll just become even more rabidly anti-everything left of Hitler. Shit like this doesn't go unanswered too often. Violence is a contagion with no cure except time, and the clock gets set back another decade every time someone retaliates. I'm sure we could chain all of these assassinations together into a causal sequence. But even if they're all independent events, the narrative-makers will be hard at work making it sound like a grand battle of the ages, so the result is the same either way.

P.S. Any bets that the shooter was a MAGA nut? Seems to be the trend 👀
Thing is most gun owners who hunt know. I saw a man shot at close range when I was in my early twenties. I wasn't involved, just passenger in a car nearby when it happened. The next day there was nothing about it in the papers. Nothing at all. This guy gets shot and no one cared.
I shot pigs for slaughter at close range right between the eyes when I was ten or eleven years old. All us kids took a turn and in some ways it was a good thing. Its good you know where meat comes from. Only a fool would think that shooting a person isn't going to result in a large amount of blood. That shot was in a region of the body that has closely grouped large arteries and veins. No surprise there was so much blood. Anyone who is surprised should be thankful they have never seen something like that before.
I saw that video of the man shooting himself in those faces of death videos back in the 90's.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R._Budd_Dwyer
I felt bad about it because they said he was a good man. As for Kirk I feel very little. His words have made me care very little for him. Similar to how I felt when that healthcare guy got deleted.
I realize I may be more desensitized to the things like this than most. At least I hope so.
No, but there was a shooting of 3 innocent students in Colorado today and now you know what happened to them. And the Uvalde students... Dozens of them...
The left is notoriously unarmed while the right is the reason our gun ownership is so high. At a time when the right threatens to take more and more away, this feels like a poor choice. Personally I agree with a very prominent leftist that the working class must be armed, and I feel that as those on the left we need to see the writing on the wall. The united states does not appear to be going a more peaceful direction, and if we want to keep having any rights for the workers at all we need to be ready to frustrate any attempt to disarm or otherwise neutralize us. In a world where the right does not threaten to take guns from trans folks or keep us from using our right to organize, we can talk about gun control again. Sadly we are sliding away from that so fast that I can't imagine where we will be at the end of this presidency.
Earlier this year, Utah passed House Bill 128 allowing people to conceal carry firearms on university campuses. One of the campuses where conceal carry was now permitted is, of course, Utah Valley University, where Charlie Kirk was visiting today. He was sitting under a tent with the slogan "Prove Me Wrong".
Immediately before the shooting, he was taking questions from the audience:
“Do you know how many transgender Americans have been mass shooters over the last 10 years?” an audience member asked. Kirk responded, “Too many.”
The questioner followed up: “Do you know how many mass shooters there have been in America over the last 10 years?”
“Counting or not counting gang violence?” Kirk asked.
It's unfortunate that he's ineligible for the Darwin Award because he leaves behind 2 very young children and a culture warrior wife, because otherwise he'd be a great nominee for the 2025 Darwin Awards. Normally to get a Darwin Award someone has to directly kill themselves. But, I think in this case we could have make an exception for someone who was a cheerleader for gun rights and was sitting directly under a banner saying "Prove Me Wrong" when he was killed with a gun.
This is a TRAGEDY! WHY couldn't they MURDER A BUNCH OF KINDERGARTNERS Instead? This SUCKS! It's TIME for Trump to send the Military into the Shithole Blue state of Utah!
The full quote is even more something out of a movie too somehow.
He had just been asked if he knew how many mass shootings had been committed by trans people, to which he responded "too many," and was then asked if he knew how many mass shootings happened in the past ten years, where he responded "with or without gang violence?"
I have been desensitize to it because my twitter timeline has been flooded with toddlers having their skulls hollowed out by the IDF. A live-streamed holocaust has kind of made violence seem not that abnormal to me, so it comes across as strange when politicians cry about people advocating for violence, when literally most of them support industrial-scale genocide of hundreds of thousands that I see dying on a day-to-day basis. That alone has changed me from a "violence is inherently bad" type mofo to a "I would celebrate if most of these American politicians were [redacted]" type mofo. Why should I care if a person who loves mass murder of children dies? It's called karma.
I was just thinking about that. Someone will whine about empathy sooner or later and I've come up with what I think is a pretty good response, feel free to use it if you agree.
I've been putting up with their hateful shit for most of my life, exactly how many years of that are required before I'm allowed to have an empty empathy tank for them?
yeah that was...very not gruesome? i've seen people hype it up but, like, that was nothing? unless you're afraid of blood i guess. most death i've seen in my life was way worse.
Yeah, that's not a good place to get shot. AP news said he, "grabbed up with his right hand to his left shoulder" or some shit but that dude is unconscious immediately. Just that old "fencer's response" Prolly gonna die.
Not just “violence”, but actively trying to downplay mass shootings by blaming them on “gang violence”. He’s a goon, but at least he’s the best kind of goon(a dead one).
“Do you know how many mass shooters there have been in America in the last 10 years?” a person asks. “Counting or not counting gang violence?” Kirk responds right before he is shot.
It's my personal belief with absolutely no evidence that the person asking the questions and the shooter were working together. Those questions and the timing of the shot are just too fucking perfect.
Life is stranger than fiction. Yes, the timing worked out, that doesn’t mean fuck all. This isn’t a movie, and sometimes timing can be unintentionally poetic. The shooter could hear them, too, and may have decided that was the moment they wished to fire the shot on their own accord. Those types of questions are asked all the time at these shitty debates, it’s not even remotely special and it’s even a topic that is one of the core things Kirk pushed pretty heavily.
Everyone’s making up all kinds of conspiracies when the highly likely, nearly guaranteed, reality is that it was someone who came to the conclusion that the systems present in the US would not only do nothing to punish Kirk for his hate but in fact reward him for it. The same thing happened to a certain health insurance CEO for the same reason. They took the law into their own hands because the law does exist to serve victims, only oppressors.
Yes, this means the violence all too present in the US has finally come to white conservatives. Deal with it.
Fuck, glad I waited to smoke a joint on that one. That doesn't really seem survivable. Especially with the way the body moved. Though I want confirmation.
Loved and admired by all!? Good with the youth!? I know we are not supposed to talk ill of the dead, but do we have to literally make up lies about him?
of course trump needed a big distraction, and now media is only focused on it right now. im pretty sure melania is a reaper, waiting til you pass so she can have your will.
Shhh, do you hear that? That's the bullet headed to my neck.
If America, and the taxes we pay for them to kill, kills innocent civilians, and most of us go along everyday not giving a fuck then why should we give a single fuck about this?
Shit my paid taxes paid less for this than more monstrous murders. There's less blood on my hands from this murder than the Israel Gaza war or any other war. Basically my tax payments have paid for more heartless shit than this. Yet that's all cool and this is supposed to not be okay?
I am so glad that i live in the timeline where Charlie Kirk was the sole victim of a school shooting. I'm glad he could die defending the Second Amendment
I was getting my haircut and FOX was on the TV when I found out he died from the shooting. Barbershop is Vietnamese owned and the barber was busy on his phone when I get there. I've been there many times without FOX on the TV and hope they just put a random news channel on.
Fox was showing the reaction from various congress-critters and they got to AOC. AOC's message was this another example of we we need some gun control in a much better way than I am relaying. When FOX went back to the host he immediately said she was wrong. HIPAA laws should be relaxed so problematic people could be found before they commit crimes.
I wonder if the right wing "think" tanks who fund TPUSA are going to try to find a new grifter to run the show or let it die with Kirk and start a new thing.
His video gaming days are over. I am assuming that he played videogames.
If you’re nice to people and you’re a positive force in society and you do t associate with bad people, no one is going to hate you or laugh at you when you die. Heck all you need is to be neutral. The bar is pretty low.
Fascists absolutely love guns. The proof is right here in front of our faces. Guns will never protect us from fascists because violence is what they want.
I am so sorry to hear your hero died AKA the great white MLK. If it is any solace he died proving his point. An "armed citizenry comes with a price" as he was found of saying.
You're probably not very good at social interaction, are you? I didn't say anything praising him, I just intentionally spend time in left and right spaces so I understand both groups pretty well. It's depressing how many tools there everywhere, you aren't giving me much hope either.
Not at all, I just immediately suspected you of trolling based on what you said. I read your comment history and I confirmed my suspicion.
Speaking of social interactions, part of that is reading the room. This means understanding the temperature and leaning of the group you are discussing things with.
Kirk recognized this and very carefully crafted his image by omitting anytime someone put him in his place and using plausible deniability to conceal his misogynist and racist right wing viewpoints.
Your MLK comments were particularly interesting considering he was known for saying things like Martin Luther King Jr. is exaggerated, calling King “awful… not a good person.” and also calling the Civil Rights Movement "a huge mistake."
Perhaps you are just ill informed and made a mistake. From my viewpoint you could perhaps be just like him. Someone pushing a right wing agenda that is not afraid to lie and conceal the truth.
I think most of the world's population does live under the thumb of authoritarian governments. I'm not only opposed to the fascist right, I'm opposed to authoritarian left too.
Ideological assassinations are a huge step in the wrong direction. Once you open the door to violence in place of speech and exchange of ideas, it's a bad place. Everyone should condemn this. Do you honestly believe it's a good idea to start killing people? Who is next? It's not always going to be people you disagree with, and ANY murders need to be condemned.
Our citizenry is headed right toward authoritarian dystopia. I think what we have in store is worse than death. If you were trans and black right now, you would not defend them. They are causing anxiety and suffering, and they absolutely do not care about the Genocide in Gaza. This surveillance state, widening inequality, constant war, rampant racism, homophobia, and everything else they are doing will destroy us all. We have no future. That is sick to me. Psychopaths win every time. These will too. I am just holding off until I need to die.
Yeah well that's a better example than the American revolution anyway, but I guess I view revolution against government as being a little different than murder of a citizen exercising their right to free speech. The French revolution also was fighting to establish a democracy, wherein people could freely exchange ideas and contribute to the shape of government. Democracy doesn't work if people murder each other instead of discussing things and using your vote to shape government. Violence must be prohibited and overwhelmingly condemned or it devolves into a zero sum game. This isn't a victory for the left, this is a loss for society, further degradation of our republic.
I was about to comment on how no-one ever actually uses the 2A to do any good but then I gathered from context that I've slept through half a news cycle.
I just disagree with him. I suppose he would have said his own death was worth the price for freedom, right? So he proved his own point, but I just can’t get on board with it.
Talk about self-prophecy. Get shot after saying it's necessary and nobody give a damn so he can get no empathy like he wanted too. Why are people upset? He got everything he asked for. I'm happy for him. If he only wished for hugs instead of guns maybe he could have received that instead? Who knows, maybe not?
Either way the Law of Attraction is some serious shit.
The civil war has been happening but mostly it's just feds playing with themselves using pawns trying to entice real human beings to join in.
Look at all the history of the CIA and fed assassinations... And look at that kill shot.
Look at the joke assignations attempts they used on trump... Because he wasn't supposed to really die yet.
There's a reason Kirk died and Trump didn't.
They are both pawns, but Kirk was a lower pawn.
Legal Modern Mafia that sacrifices their own by extorting people to kill for them. The same as the game in the streets. The sad part is most people don't realize they are used.
You don't have to like him, but jeez people in here are messed up. I'm a little surprised that so many people are celebrating an ideological assassination. Democracy literally cannot survive if opinions are punishable by death, and that alone should be soundly condemned.
You guys don’t understand. I am so sick of seeing calls for violence. I’m so sick of seeing coldness toward violence.
Someone is going to want to retaliate. That’s what the fuck violence brings. Unless you win completely, and the only kind of motherfuckers who win completely are people who exterminate everyone who opposes them.
Is that what the fuck we want?
Do we want to see important figures in a left-wing movement assassinated? Someone is going to be upset enough to fire a gun at someone you care about.
Violence begets violence.
I can’t stand reading this shit anymore. I really can’t.
A bunch of fucking keyboard warriors stoked as shit when someone gets killed. Never ever fucking smart enough to think about what comes next. Well, get ready for it. Someone is going to be angry enough to shoot back, that is a promise. Go look at a fucking history book. Nobody takes this kind of thing sitting down.
If you think anything good is going to come from this, you are a goddamn fool.
Leaders in a movement you care about are about to be assassinated in retaliation by some moron with a fucking gun.
I’ve got to get the fuck away from all this noise. I’m half tempted to fucking throw my phone in the creek and never look back.
Y’all want to kill each other and then cheer when someone is fucking murdered, fine.
Goddamn.
I fucking hated Charlie Kirk. If he had died naturally, I’d be the first one to piss on his fucking grave. Some idiot made a martyr, that’s what they did. Curious motherfucking kids who never heard anything he said will now listen to everything he ever said. You can’t kill an Ideology by killing the people who espouse said ideology.
I just want to beat my head into a fucking wall. I’m so fucking burned out. Fuck anybody who is OK with bullets traveling through the flesh of any of their fellow men. Go into a field and fire the guns yourselves against other idiots who want to fire guns, the rest of us are sick of your fucking violence.
Hi guys! Just because he was an awful person doesn't mean he deserves to die. I am actually horrified by how many people are condoning this, especially when this man has a family and a wife and it's not even like trump when it would have actually done anything for our country. all this has done has made a gigantic fuss and give fox news rage bait.
You were a good Christian man with moral principles with a wife and 2 kids. You were killed by a lunatic while you were exercising your freedom of speech, you were persecuted by your opponents. Some may say that's a form of fascism, the same party that accused you of being.
The violent rhetoric of the left influenced some weak minded soul to take you from your children, and also taken your quotes out of context.
Charlie Kirk never robbed a pregnant woman at gun point, or robbed a bank, or killed a woman on a train, but instead encouraged open conversation between all parties so they could understand each other in a meaningful way.
May you rest in peace, and may your naysayers see the evil in their ways and repent. They may mock you because they're unable to refute your debates, but they will reap what they sow.

Great foreshadowing too.
Immediately before the shooting, he was taking questions from the audience:
https://www.pbs.org/newshour/politics/conservative-activist-charlie-kirk-shot-at-utah-valley-university-event-spokesperson-says

GeeDubHayduke@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 2 pts · 337d
It's my personal belief with absolutely no evidence that the person asking the questions and the shooter were working together. Those questions and the timing of the shot are just too fucking perfect.
Soup@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 337d

Doomsider@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 337d

Because Civil wars are fought between fellow citizens and usally about positions those people have espoused.

OccamsRazer@lemmy.world · -8 pts · 338d
Ideological assassinations are a huge step in the wrong direction. Once you open the door to violence in place of speech and exchange of ideas, it's a bad place. Everyone should condemn this. Do you honestly believe it's a good idea to start killing people? Who is next? It's not always going to be people you disagree with, and ANY murders need to be condemned.
morphballganon@mtgzone.com · 12 pts · 338d
This is just the trolley problem. If you can save 5 people by killing 1, is it correct to do so, or take no action?
Well, we've got lots of people taking no action, and look where that's got us.

Serinus@lemmy.world · 9 pts · 337d
Tell that to France.
OccamsRazer@lemmy.world · -9 pts · 337d
Yeah well that's a better example than the American revolution anyway, but I guess I view revolution against government as being a little different than murder of a citizen exercising their right to free speech. The French revolution also was fighting to establish a democracy, wherein people could freely exchange ideas and contribute to the shape of government. Democracy doesn't work if people murder each other instead of discussing things and using your vote to shape government. Violence must be prohibited and overwhelmingly condemned or it devolves into a zero sum game. This isn't a victory for the left, this is a loss for society, further degradation of our republic.

"Kirked" is a verb. Past tense obviously. /S

RIP Charlie Kirk.
RIP Charlie Kirk
