I remember in the 1990s when I was fairly young, and I was having a discussion with other people, and I kept saying the Republican Party was a fascist party, and I remember one of the people in the discussion taking me aside afterward and telling me that I couldn't say that(not because it wasn't true, but) because people would get offended.
I remember after the September 11 attack, that they named the department for the country's security "The Department of Homeland Security" and I had extreme concerns about their intentions by naming it that. I could see what they were moving toward, even back then.

I have a hypothesis that as society we're too polite. We don't tell people they're being assholes because that's uncomfortable, so they continue being assholes without appropriate social pressure.
My FiL intentionally takes advantage of this in people. I was just trying to agree with the original commenter, because when I call him on his crap publicly, it keeps him more in line. I'm not from the US but my understanding is that the way US history is taught in schools and sometimes even colleges is heavily whitewashed and romanticized. Pupils are also repeatedly taught "allegiance ... to the republic, one nation under god" (how dystopian). It is very difficult to accept that your entire understanding (and thus love) of the country you live in is at best heavily doctored and at worst just a total sham perpetrated by the elites.

I'm not one who is keen to ever hand over words, phrases, symbols and such to hatred. It sucks to let awful people appropriate them. Not sure why a person took part in massively improving the rights and living conditions of the working class and fighting against the original nazis should be considered bad in comparison with enthusiastic slavers.

There are plenty of folks who came over after the bulk of the genocide was largely done. Don't think an Italian coming over in the 1910s had fuck all to do with the Native American genocide.
But even ignoring that you are assuming that this is all a black and white situation when people are rarely that. For example the early Scots-Irish population in Appalachia generally got along well enough with native Americans often times even mixing together, you could also have the later Irish immigrants from the Irish genocide by the English inflicting the same fate apon Native Americans in the great planes.
Hell my own ancestors did seemingly contradictory shit as being slavers while murdering people for being bigots against Native Americans. Only for a generation later to be fighting for the abolishment of slavery and arming natives while really fucking hating newer Anglo settlers to the point of commiting hate crimes.

With the current media landscape I believe it's malicious intent rather than stupidity.
It's simliar to how an old artist's music being played on a pop station is a leading indicator that artist is going to put out a new album. The intended end users of the Nazi Germany phrases may not know/care what they're saying, but the people seeding it into the media are literally just following the playbook for what worked last time.
My bingo card has a spot on it for seeing unironic back-to-back commericials for gold sellers (who didn't get the memo) and reminders that the US has nationalized all its gold (again).

Im a process chemist and we often actually form solutions at the end of a chemical process that are unfortunately deemed "final solutions". There's not really a way around it since it's the most technically accurate way to describe what we're dealing with

Idk why...I think there was a book that we listened to in like 7th grade that was narrated by LeVar Burton where there was a character that was, I think, a freed slave, and he was travelling with some young abolitionist white kid, and he'd always call the kid Boss, and it made the kid like really uncomfortable, and that must've rubbed off on me.

I was in a meeting planning a large corporate event. A chef was there discussing food options and how they were having trouble finding a kosher meal provider but they have a work around until they find a final solution. Me and one other person both looked up and made eye contact, but no one else reacted. I had to pull the chef aside and ask him not to use that phrase when speaking about kosher meals.

Because it's all part of a unified boot that they hope to use on the throat of the world. All the agencies you remember from the government, are not doing that thing you remember they did. They are now strictly there to support violence.
I surmised all that from news reports. I can only assume the DOL is now responsible for the minimization of labor as a class, and the promotion of forced labor.

This is just historical revisionism, the USA was founded on the idea of unlimited authority of rich white men over all other people. The 1st amendment was designed to protect the newly founded regime from competition by the british monarchy, not to protect the people from the regime.
USA as a nation needs to go through the same reckoning with its past as germans. Currently it is culturally glorifying literal genocidal monsters and romanticizing its awful past, which leads to present perpetration of terrible crimes against humanity (see: Gaza, Iran, ICE).

I'm not from the US but my understanding is that the way US history is taught in schools and sometimes even colleges is heavily whitewashed and romanticized. Pupils are also repeatedly taught "allegiance ... to the republic, one nation under god" (how dystopian). It is very difficult to accept that your entire understanding (and thus love) of the country you live in is at best heavily doctored and at worst just a total sham perpetrated by the elites.

This is another foundational myth of the USA. Most of the people who moved from Europe to the USA were relatively privileged, particularly early on. Most of the people on the Mayflower were what we would now call middle class. Educated professionals and skilled tradesmen from England. The Puritans who didn’t have money just couldn’t afford to get out of England.
There weren’t large amounts of poor immigrants until the 19th century, and the USA was deeply discriminatory against them when they came.
Also, I think many black folks and indigenous people did not experience “an objectively better life for their descendants.”

yeah its a colloqueal thing. people in america if they say america mean the usa and since that is the way the flag wavers speak I use the same lingo. americas would imply the continent or several countries in it. of course you could also use the actual names with north or south in them.

americas is a bit weird, since to me it always meant the whole of north and south america, which is also how it usually is being used in a corporate/business context.

I don't see how you could. No continent is named america. If you don't use north or south then you have a question of which one. americas you are right implies both. America is used for the united states of america because its the only country that uses america in its name. Terrotories of the usa have things like america somoa. Its usage is correct as is. People just get wierd about it.

Again though america is in it. Like if you say britain you might mean great britain. Of coures that one is a can of worms with all the name. Honestly tons of countries are like that its just the shortened version is considered proper but because of the continent thing again people get wierd about it. china, egypt, mexico, iran, ethiopia, ireland, poland, switzerland. A lot of republic and the name with some flowery dressing.

Nazis also said "Germany awake!" as a slogan, "Freedom and bread", "Victory!" and so on, simple phrases without any derogatory or fascist meaning, I don't see the problem.

The problem is, contextually, this is a direct nod to the "ein volk, ein reich" shit of Nazi Germany. It is most certainly intended to be exactly that. For that reason it's invigorating to the far right, white nationalist, christofascist crowd. It's still appealing to the uneducated tone-deaf right who, like yourself, think (or are quick to excuse it as) "oh, it's just a happy simple little slogan about bringing America together 🦅🇺🇸🎆🔫." Which is great for the aforementioned fascists because they can hide behind that interpretation and know the people who only see it that way are dumb enough to continue to back them. Simultaneously it serves as a reminder to anyone not pasty enough of complexion that they are not welcome in the far right's idea of America. They are not welcome as part of the "one." "The melting pot has been switched off. Drop your culture and heritage at the door. If you assimilate maybe we'll use you as a token but we still really don't want you here."
I'm not one who is keen to ever hand over words, phrases, symbols and such to hatred. It sucks to let awful people appropriate them. But you'd need to have been living under a rock for the last decade to not see the obvious dog whistle for what it is. In a vacuum I wouldn't see the problem either. Here on planet Earth you'd need to be deaf and blind to miss it.
