BoxOfFeet@lemmy.world · 18 pts · 91d (4 replies)

Even so, I will sock, step on shoe, sock, put on shoe, put on other shoe. I would never, in any imaginable circumstance, have a sock and shoe on one foot while the other is bare. That is just insanity.

meco03211@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 91d (1 reply)

I could maybe see if you have high top hiking boots to go sock>insert foot in shoe BUT LEAVE UNTIED>other sock>other shoe (tying in whatever order works). I wouldn't consider that a full "shoe" though. Like if you put the horseshoe up to the horse foot but didn't nail it in. It's not truly on until it's tied.

It's funny the stuff that can set people off, I can't stand the feel of long pants and short socks. If I'm wearing long pants, my ankles have to be covered by my socks.

Carnelian@lemmy.world · 15 pts · 91d

For me personally I change outfits several times a week in a public bathroom, so my main goal is simply to avoid letting my socks or any of my other clothing touch the floor.

Corollary to this, I actually complete one foot start to finish before moving on to the next. So at the halfway point I am fully wearing a new sock and shoe on one foot, while the other is still wearing my old sock and shoe

People who don't wear shoes indoors and keep their floors clean generally put their socks on in their bedroom after they got out of bed and their shoes on in the entryway when they're about to go outside.

You know, people who don't live like animals.

BeardedBlaze@lemmy.world · 18 pts · 91d (12 replies)

Y'all wear socks in the house?!

OR3X@lemmy.world · 17 pts · 91d (4 replies)

Yes, because I have hardwood and tile floors. Shit's cold in the winter.

Geth@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 6 pts · 91d (1 reply)

That's what house slippers, thick socks and some good rugs are for. Even if somehow you have a special pair of shoes that you only wear inside and never outside for the obvious hygiene reasons, they are probably bad for your feet compared to walking barefoot.

PapaStevesy@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 90d

That's what house slippers, thick socks and some good rugs are for.

You can accomplish the same thing with just normal socks though. Slippers-without-socks is a sweaty stinky nightmare and with socks is just a hat on a hat, thick socks have the same sweat problem unless your springing for merino wool which is expensive (especially for something as transitory and utilitarian as socks), and good rugs are really fucking expensive and only make sense in certain parts of the house.

In the winter its unthinkable not to but in the summer it's unthinkable to wear socks. Why did my ancestors choose to settle down in Ontario where the weather is one extreme or the other

takeda@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 4 pts · 91d

I guess it depends how sweaty your feet can get.

Trainguyrom@reddthat.com · 2 pts · 90d

I love the extremes because you never get one extreme for too long. Just when the dark cold of winter starts to seep into your soul, spring rolls around, then when the storms and rain start to get too much the hot hot summer hits, then the mornings become crisp and the leafs turn every color of the rainbow for the warm seasons' last hurrah before it dives into a winter wonderland again

I rarely take my socks off when I take off my shoes (unless they're wet). Not out of principal or anything, out of laziness. Later I might decide I don't feel like wearing socks any more and then take them off.

But I don't put socks on in the first place, unless I'm about to go put on shoes. If I'm not wearing socks and my feet are cold I'll get my slippers.

positiveWHAT@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 91d (1 reply)

Having cotton on the inner layer defeats the purpose of the wool though?

meco03211@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 91d

Not necessarily. It would be similar to cotton long John's underneath wool pants. It just creates pockets of air. The heat comes from your foot. The extra barrier would eliminate conductive heat transfer from your foot to the wool while adding in pockets of air such transfer less heat via convective transfer. The problem would be if your foot sweats as now you're adding in a cotton layer that will absorb that moisture and reduce its insulating properties.

Depends on the environment. When camping, in a tent without a floor, putting on each shoe right after the sock allows parking the shoed foot on the dirt while putting on the next sock and shoe.
But putting on both socks and then putting on both shoes is the default.

If something happens, it's better to have one foot ready in case there's broken glass on the floor than to have two bloody socks.

MurrayL@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 91d (1 reply)

Better yet, just wear boots at all times. If you never remove them, you’ll never have to worry about broken glass again! You know, just in case.

Zephorah@discuss.online · 3 pts · 91d

You say that as a joke, but it’s very real. The ED staff like to mutter about never removing the boots. The floor staff mutter about having to do just that.

There are homeless people who’ve not removed their boots in a year or two. There are toes that come off with socks.

There’s no “better yet” in this scenario.

I don't keep my socks and shoes in the same place. So I put socks on in the bedroom, then go downstairs to put on shoes before going out

Enkrod@feddit.org · 5 pts · 91d (2 replies)

It's sock sock pants shoe shoe. No way would I don my shoes before donning my pants.

captainlezbian@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 91d

That's how I do skinny jeans. Otherwise the socks aren't getting on all the way

prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 1 pts · 91d

No way would I don my shoes before donning my pants.

This would be the true psychopath move

BeUnique@lemmy.zip · 4 pts · 91d (2 replies)

What kind of person has their shit together enough that their socks are in the same place as their shoes? I have to make sure I have 5 minutes set aside of my getting ready time to search for the socks that magically disappear when I need them.

DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 91d (1 reply)

You should fold your socks together when they come out of the dryer.

Do this: buy all new socks, all the same color and brand, so they all match each other. Then you can just take any two and fold them together. If you're missing a sock, just leave the odd one in the dryer for the next time through, eventually, you'll find the other sock, and they'll be reunited. Also, when you take your socks off, don't leave them balled up, or turned inside out, so when they come out of the dryer they're ready to fold.

This is what I taught my kids. They had their own sock color, as did I. We always knew whose sock was on the floor in the hallway.

BeUnique@lemmy.zip · 4 pts · 91d

Hey look, this person's kids are already more skilled at keeping their shit together than I am. Good job!

I completely agree with you! I have done this before but the bulk socks I bought were low quality so they wore out super quick getting holes in them. This caused me to revert back to my various branded socks... They were a brand that used to be good called Golden Toe. I used to use them when I worked in my feet all day because they were thicker and more durable. Not anymore apparently. I should do this again with better socks! Thanks for the advice.

Well, when I’m sleeping it’s definitely “soooooock shooooooe. sooooooock shooooooe”

Breezy@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 91d

Mine is wipe bare foot, sock, shoe, tie. Then repeat, wipe, sock, shoe, tie. I wipe my feet before work because im barefooted through my house over carpet(ew) in a house with 5 animals. And i unlace and retie my shoes everyday instead of keeping them tied forcing my foot in.

Very few instances exist where a person can say "this is objectively, indubiously, universally wrong". Sock-shoe-sock-shoe is one of them.

perishthethought@piefed.social · 2 pts · 91d

Oh OK, as long as we're being objective.

Guys, it's Sock > Sock > Shoe > Shoe C'mon, be civilized.

frostysauce@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 89d

I'm old, I'm fat, I'm lazy. I don't want to have to put my foot up on my knee twice as often.

Sock > shoe > sock > shoe

9point6@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 91d

I'm generally about to put both on anyway, just putting the sock on is half a job

OddMinus1@sh.itjust.works · 3 pts · 91d (1 reply)

I live in a civilized country where shoes stay far away from where the socks come on.

lauha@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 90d

In theory yes, but I cannot afford a large apartment.

echodot@feddit.uk · 3 pts · 91d

I do sock sock and then ages later shoe shoe.

Are these psychopaths only putting socks on when they leave the house?

Kurtagag@lemmy.ca · 2 pts · 91d (1 reply)

I do this but I wear shoes all day

MeowerMisfit817@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 91d

Same. I wonder what do people find wrong about sock-sock-shoe-shoe

moopet@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 90d

I do both. By which I mean I optimise for distance. If the shoe is closer than the sock in my unsorted floordrobe, I'll go that way.

Same with trouser legs and socks. Sometimes it's leg->sock, leg-sock, sometimes sock-leg, sock-sock-leg-leg or leg-leg-sock-sock.

I do not play favourites.

Q: If you have 2 shoes and 1 sock, what do you need?

A: A sock.

For me it depends, but I typically do both socks first
