If one skips anything, it's the last two seasons when everybody is flanderized all to hell, they're out of things to do in Pawnee, and some of the new additions don't work as well. I'd say skip any episode in S6 that feels off, and then just ignore s7. Feels like Babylon 5 where thy're like, "We got another season, WTF do we do now?"
Hey I love The Office, but Parks & Rec just hits a lot harder for me. Maybe it's because I live in a small town so we end up knowing everything that happens in the local government (and everything that happens in the town, really, there isn't much to keep track of). The Office is funny to me because it feels absurd and exaggerated, but P&R is funnier because it's just as ridiculous but feels way too realistic for comfort.
I'd say The (US) Office's highs might be a little higher than P&R's, but P&R had an optimism that kept it better for longer, or at least for a longer percentage of its run. IMHO The Office already had the check-fuel light on by the time Jim and Pam got married, and by the end it was just some strangers physically pushing the thing a couple miles farther down the road. P&R for me didn't start declining until they got back from London, and S6 still had a lot of good stuff. I'd have to look into it, but I really do feel like they thought that was the end, but somehow got renewed for S7 and had to do the entire weird coda of a season with a three year time skip that, I guess, made it technically Sci Fi, LOL
That seems pretty common for super popular shows. Like there are only so many seasons needed, and instead of keeping things tidy and ending the show, they extend with seasons that don't fit and really ruin the overall show. Both Parks and Rec and Office did it.
The Good Place went the other way. NBC and the fans wanted more but Mike Schur and Greg Daniels (The Office, P&R) kept it short and sweet. Didn’t overstay its welcome and went out when and how they intended.
I had a realization lately that the last season didn’t just ruin GoT for me. I think it subconsciously ruined TV. I’ve not gotten invested in a non-comedy series since then.
If I'm honest, it really feels like a LOT of media got suddenly worse some time in the 2010s in general. TV, movies, big budget games - I know enshittification is a thing in every industry, but it feels like there was a major quality drop in such a short period of time.
There are obviously some exceptions, but it's like a switch was flipped, and my interest was gone. GoT was one that carried on for a while, but then it succumbed to it too.
I still can't bring myself to watch any of the spin offs. People keep telling me how good they are, but I was burned before and need time to learn to love again.

Very possibly so. I'm also not a huge believer in the sanctity of lore when you are adapting something to a different medium. IE, didnt miss Tom Bombadil in the Lord if the Rings movies so I'm pretty easy going as long as the adaptation is good in its own right.

Gets Hodor killed, somehow through unexplained time travel causes Hodor's "hodor" problem. A girl takes him all the way through the frozen north just for him to say, bye now! Trash character. I'll second the other commenter. With your preconceived notion being "terrible," you might be pleasantly surprised and find that it's merely "rushed." GoT is partly a cultural artifact as the last genre project that truly captured the monoculture's attention (it laughs at Severance's or Stanger Things' so-called impact) before the internet shattered it, so everything good and bad about it was dramatically amplified.
It's insanely good, definitely check it out. In the first episode Tony goes to therapy, and then runs someone over with his car, and later pulls a gun out of a fish and shoots a man with it.
Me neither. After a couple Godfather movies I had enough of mafia stories - I can't sympathize or relate with them, I just want 'em all to shoot each other and be done with it. But it's fun to mock their distinctive vocal pattern.
To each their own, naturally. I usually eat stuff that’s not super crunchy and I also watch with subtitles since I have difficulty processing spoken language anyway lol
And here I am contemplating trying to find "My Mother the Car" because it sounds stupid as fuck and I have wanted to experience the badness of it since my dad told me of its existence years ago.

I'm honestly so grateful for Star Trek. And there are enough episodes between TOS, TNG, VOY, DS9, and Lower Decks that I can pretty much infinitely rewatch them in an endless loop. Especially if you also throw in The Orville, The Expanse, any of the Stargates, or Battlestar Galactica into that watch loop.
Toss in Babylon 5 for the Trek/Sgate/Bstar/Expanse and all spin offs rotation. That's a ton of great shows that could keep you busy for years with little overlap and breaks between franchises.
I grew up with Voyager and at some point, I systematically rewatches TNG, DS9 and VOY (and TOS, this was before DIS). I watched the episodes in order of release which adds to the experience because there are reoccuring characters and narratives showing up in different shows. The shows are very episodic (except for parts of DS9) so you can watch them in any order, but if you watch them all anyways, be aware of the overlap both in release date and in the story
I actually very recently tried New Girl. Forced myself to finish the first episode, is the pilot that bad? Does it get better? May just not be my cup of tea I suppose but I have a hard time forcing an hour of media consumption before I get hooked lol who has that kind of spare time these days.
In high school I would watch the entire series, then when I watched the final episode at the time, I'd start again on My First Day. Just loop that shit.
Go back further and you hit some really great trash TV no one is talking about, like Babylon 5, and Renegade. Even just the opening credits to Renegade are classic:
He was a cop, and good at his job. But then he committed the ultimate sin and testified against other cops - gone bad. Cops who tried to kill him but got the woman he loved instead. Framed for murder, now he prowls the badlands. An outlaw hunting outlaws, a bounty hunter - a renegade!
Not 8 seasons or whatever, but I'm surprised I never heard of The Strain before this summer, 4 seasons and it has an ending, unlike its contemporaries, definitely recommend

I would recommend you read the books, it really enhances and expands the series.
I'll definitely watch this. This affliction gets far too little exposure. The strain is real. Finally, a show I can watch while I attempt to make an offering to the porcelain god.
I understand that concern, but I’d say that it’s one of those shows that picks up as time goes on, as there is a main plot line that is slowly established before really driving the plot. The last two seasons have some stellar episodes, with the show losing some of its procedural nature.
It is still science fiction, so of course that whenever a character hacks something it always looks dumb.
I read that it picks up, forced my way through S1 and the beginning of S2 and just could not continue, way too much cheese. I love sci-fi and could not push on.
Get a life is a series I remember fondly. However it might be nostalgia and not be that great, or maybe it hasn't stood the test of time. I don't know because it's nowhere to be found nowadays.
House MD is a great show, and I partially identified with House at the time I viewed it. Now, more spiritually inclined and aware that the world is an illusion and is ultimately dependent on the entanglements created through intention-setting, I see House much like my father; very logically-oriented but missing the point. There are more complex systems than what the universe presents as it's empirically-defined system. The universe is a divine clock, alright, but therein, there is greater complexity at play that bestows each of our parallel-generated experiences. We are not featherless bipeds on an Earth, but rather each of us is a unique pocket of consciousness that is procedurally generated based on intention-setting, and our intentions are reconciled with countless others to generate the realities most likely to wake us up to this process, and my awareness piqued twelve years ago and I speal from gnosis of having followed the whispers of God; logic (Adam) is only half the equation, and our intuition (Eve) will understand reality truly before that which House defined his life by.

I'm honestly so grateful for Star Trek. And there are enough episodes between TOS, TNG, VOY, DS9, and Lower Decks that I can pretty much infinitely rewatch them in an endless loop. Especially if you also throw in The Orville, The Expanse, any of the Stargates, or Battlestar Galactica into that watch loop.

Toss in Babylon 5 for the Trek/Sgate/Bstar/Expanse and all spin offs rotation. That's a ton of great shows that could keep you busy for years with little overlap and breaks between franchises.

I grew up with Voyager and at some point, I systematically rewatches TNG, DS9 and VOY (and TOS, this was before DIS). I watched the episodes in order of release which adds to the experience because there are reoccuring characters and narratives showing up in different shows. The shows are very episodic (except for parts of DS9) so you can watch them in any order, but if you watch them all anyways, be aware of the overlap both in release date and in the story

I actually very recently tried New Girl. Forced myself to finish the first episode, is the pilot that bad? Does it get better? May just not be my cup of tea I suppose but I have a hard time forcing an hour of media consumption before I get hooked lol who has that kind of spare time these days.

I understand that concern, but I’d say that it’s one of those shows that picks up as time goes on, as there is a main plot line that is slowly established before really driving the plot. The last two seasons have some stellar episodes, with the show losing some of its procedural nature.
It is still science fiction, so of course that whenever a character hacks something it always looks dumb.

House MD is a great show, and I partially identified with House at the time I viewed it. Now, more spiritually inclined and aware that the world is an illusion and is ultimately dependent on the entanglements created through intention-setting, I see House much like my father; very logically-oriented but missing the point. There are more complex systems than what the universe presents as it's empirically-defined system. The universe is a divine clock, alright, but therein, there is greater complexity at play that bestows each of our parallel-generated experiences. We are not featherless bipeds on an Earth, but rather each of us is a unique pocket of consciousness that is procedurally generated based on intention-setting, and our intentions are reconciled with countless others to generate the realities most likely to wake us up to this process, and my awareness piqued twelve years ago and I speal from gnosis of having followed the whispers of God; logic (Adam) is only half the equation, and our intuition (Eve) will understand reality truly before that which House defined his life by.
