I've never supported Hitler

Guy wearing a Hitler 'stache as a "social experiment."

"You literally have a Hitler mustache!"

"So does that guy!" points at Charlie Chaplain

"No I do-Oh no..."

imsufferableninja@sh.itjust.works · 44 pts · 330d (3 replies)

I read somewhere that Hitler grew a "Charlie Chaplin" mustache because he was a big fan

RoidingOldMan@lemmy.world · 56 pts · 330d (1 reply)

It was called the Chaplin before Hitler grew one. Hitler grew it to help soften his public image. He was known to be a big fan of American movies. And had them imported during WWII for private screenings, even though it was illegal in the rest of Nazi Germany.

regedit@lemmy.zip · 8 pts · 330d

How ironic, then, that Charlie made such a scathing satirical movie about the absurdity of Adolf!

biofaust@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 330d

I have always read that the style was in vogue among men who had to fight in WWI where the use of gas masks discouraged keeping a full beard or moustache as it hindered adherence.

You can see the shift in the American presidents too.

DreamAccountant@lemmy.world · -7 pts · 330d (2 replies)

A National Socialist Experiment. He wants to find out how long he can survive in public with a hitler mustache.

Me? Oh, ahah. no. These people need serious mental help, education, and time away from nazi propagandists.

It's the right-wingers that are the assassins, apparently. They really know evil, you know? Beats me, they're cultist lunatics. It's not going to be hard for them to detect the "Totally normal guy doing a social experiment" from their scope.

School full of children > Hitlerized Alex Jones. Where would you rather have the christian terrorist shooting people up?

He's just trolling, he needs to sustain attention which translates to income, now that it's waning and he looks like a loser. What else is he supposed to do -- get an HVAC license? Work at an Apple store? His options are limited.

100% this.

Gotta point out nazis when you see them, and that's all this is. Alex Jones is a nazi, in a nazi party, as a nazi propagandist, with a hitler mustache to show his nazi allegiance.

All these guys went to Epstein island, right? Or were they too poor? Bottom tier suckups?

PhilipTheBucket@quokk.au · 13 pts · 330d (1 reply)

I guarantee you Alex Jones did not go to Epstein island. That was for presidents and billionaires. They would have laughed at him and told him to get back to his trailer park and get some craigslist hookers or something.

well he could have worn a clown nose, put a shoe on his head or embrace nudism, but he chose the nazi option. i think that says enough about him

Star@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 6 pts · 330d

Well, that and he actually has been an obvious 'crypto' nazi this whole time

Taldan@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 330d (1 reply)

I wouldn't call it "just trolling". He's normalizing supporting Hitler. What he says and does has a tangible impact on the world. It allows bona fide Hitler supporting neo-Nazis to openly support Hitler, then just make the same claim as Jones when challenged

Once it gets normalized enough, they drop the plausible deniability

PhilipTheBucket@quokk.au · 1 pts · 330d

True that. They're not fully mutually exclusive though. I'm just saying that I think he's doing it more for the attention than because he's decided this is the best way to promote Naziism. The Naziism he decides to openly promote is usually more disguised than this, I think most of even his audience would be more likely to be turned off by this (if they took it seriously) than taken in by it.

Grows Hitler mustache.

Alex Hitler: "It's a (nationalist) social experiment! If you call me a nazi, then you're the real nazi!"

For fuck's sake. Why do I still meet people that think they could possibly not be nazis? You're not sure? Really?

They're not time travelers from 1940. They're modern nazis, and this is what they do. He's just another nazi propagandist like limbaugh and kirk, except he's got a fucking HITLER mustache!!!

It's the same thing as the Elon Nazi salute or speech Stephen Miller just gave echoing Goebbels.

It's explicitly showing support for Nazis with a thin veil of "no u" on top for those who will take an excuse.

floofloof@lemmy.ca · 31 pts · 330d (3 replies)

If Adolf Hitler himself appeared today and shouted some furious hours-long speech about the superiority of the Aryan race at an assembly of tens of thousands of uniformed goose-stepping thugs, people would be asking, "was that a dogwhistle?"

NoForwardslashS@sopuli.xyz · 18 pts · 330d

I'm just waiting for them to do some like, DEFINITELY Nazi stuff before I condemn them and take action. You know stuff like shoving minorities in camps, or plainclothed thugs grabbing people from the street, or military deployed domestically, or maybe like a Wessel-esque state funeral, or declaring the opposition terrorists and arresting them. Idk the stuff so far could just be coincidence.

If Trump is an indicator of anything is that having no shame whatsoever is a major plus to succeed. When Trump talks about winning and success absolutely no mention of how horrifically he failed all his businesses except for the stuff his dad made sure he would not fuck with (because if he loses those then he will truely be destitute) will ever change his perspective.

ArmchairAce1944@discuss.online · 2 pts · 328d

The failure of his Atlantic City casinos is legendary. People at the time were even commenting on the news on how stupid Trump's management and planning style was. Basically making his own casinos compete and cannibalize one another instead of working against the competition.

Also Trump is all gaudy trash and looks over functionality. If Trump was born a generation prior he would have been so thoroughly ostracized by wealthier New Yorkers that he would never have had any business connections to work with. He was extremely lucky he 'came of age' in the 80s when showy displays of wealth started becoming more in vogue.

Thats the thing though. Conservatives from the 1950s view civil rights and the end of jim crow as a deviation. They tell that to their kids or whatever so conservatism now has become a narrative of all these old stupid things and is constantly being manipulated by fascists. Dems are like 1990s conservatives.

he was extremely well read and had a very good working knowledge of what the powerful were up to

He grabbed headline news and mashed it up with popular conspiracy theories of the moment.

Jones didn't know anything you couldn't find in the pages of The New Republic or The Austin American Statesman or PBS. He just made an art of cobbling it together with The Drudge Report and Townhall.com, so that people who didn't follow both strains of news figured he was saying something novel or insightful.

Yes he was trying to make a living out of it

He was outright scamming people.

Poik@pawb.social · 3 pts · 330d (3 replies)

There's a pretty good series of episodes on the podcast Behind The Bastards. Including how he sold high in lead content supplements for years. That actually might be brilliant though, as lead increases violent tendencies and reduces cognitive function, which will prevent his customer base from realizing he's just making shit up and trying to make them mad.

Poik@pawb.social · 1 pts · 330d

I don't think he did it on purpose either, but the lead part is true. The Center for Environment Health did test it.

Don't worry, I'm going to die to this fascism too.

You're barking up the wrong tree. Most people in the state are incompetent, not evil. The problem is incompetence allows evil to thrive. I've never supported censorship, but I do support people getting consequences to their actions. Alex Jones has actively supported violence through lies, and actively sold poison with no recompense. If you think what he's going through now is recompense.... I'm sorry? But you're wrong. He's doing fine through his crocodile tears.

Please. Take care of yourself. And whomever in your community you have the power to take care of. We only get through this together.

PalmTreeIsBestTree@lemmy.world · 9 pts · 330d (9 replies)
